With a seemingly stacked middle forward rotation, a lot to like about Hess.

If we can clear any risk of Tolo spending time on an edge, would happily dive in.

Still haven’t completely ruled out McGuire as a FRF with DPP, but Hess definitely preference if can stretch the budget

I personally think there is zero chance of Tolo moving to an edge. Not only is he arguably the best lock in the world, on the edges we have Cooper, Hess, Lowe and I rate Mitchell Dunn too.

It seems like most people are going to take both (D)rown and Keighren and it begs the question... Do you really need four halves and potentially five if you have a hlf/wfb at the back. Why not just put one of them as starting half (probably Keighren) and leave the other as a NPR and grab one of the extra big minute, but well-priced 2RF on offer

As long as minimum cover is in place the bench for me is just there to serve as a money making and team value machine. I don’t care if that means starting with 6 halves if I have WFB/CTR and FRF/2RF to go with them.

Won’t finish with 4 halves but absolutely fine to start that way!

Good enough for me mate! With good props I just didn’t see where McGuire fit in. Hess still firmly on radar

If I put Keighren in the halves, I have just one other cheapie (Egan) in my 17. It just feels like a better team. I also have Crichton & Tedesco as (C) options.

Id feel comfortable putting Keighren into my halves. From all reports sounds like he has a good kicking game, might kick goals and is a good defender.

The risk with rookie halves is they turn out to be a L Crocker or elgey and struggle to 20 points, or lose half their points to miss tackles.

Personally i like to start with one gun half and my other half ive gone morgan, but Keighren if definitely in my squad

    I'm struggling to find a second hooker who isn't a high-priced gun.

Not sure if this has already been posted, @Blindside got this out of Lone Scout on 2019 pricing.

As far as I'm aware prices are based primarily on 2018 averages and altered slightly (as in, by 1 or 2%) based on popularity/ownership percentage in 2018.

It doesnt really say hes the 9, and it says "if he wamts to retain the position".. though we might need to be prepared for Egan to miss out

May just be a msg of motivation to both players

Yeah, the quote was something like "he should be ready to play 80" or something non-committal like that.

Its all just pre-season fluff, its not like any player/coach is going to be forced to abide by whatever offhand comment they gave in some PR interview, 5 weeks before the comp starts.

Biggest takeaway is probably just that Cleary wants an 80 minute hooker... but I'm sure every coach would love that.

Is a Morgan/Keighran partnership too light??

Or is there no way of knowing?

For me, I'd want that one gun half in there.

I think your best case scenario is Morgan averaging 50s and Keighran 40s. So 90 between them. Unlikely but best-case.
Worst case you're looking at 50 total from them each week. Again, unlikely but possible.

Cleary, DCE, Pearce, Reynolds - should all average 50 pretty comfortably. Personally, I want that anchor in my halves but I can see why people want to leave out a gun to maximise profits from halves they think are going to average well above their price and using the cash to have guns elsewhere.

The other concern is if Cleary names Egan round 1, will he name him round 2? Cleary did a lost of tinkering last year.

I think it's a decent shout if you've got Drown on the bench and maybe a HLF/WFB at the back as well just in case it all goes pear shaped. You have to go cheap somewhere. I'm leaning back towards having a gun in there though.
