this really is the year to move on from woods, honestly if we picked 4 mids like

    Fifita
    Klem
    Jake T
    Vaughn/Paulo

along with the 4 backs rowers who i think are obvious picks to be there

then i'd be pretty shocked if we lost the middle

woods can play a safe role very well, but we have to go safe in other positions and Jake T can do anything he does anyways, time to move on from him and tamou loz

also, one of the few huge josh jackson fans, i'd have him on the right edge

but to me, he is either picked at right edge to play anywhere from the first 50-70 minutes based on flow the game is going or he doesn't make the team at all, he offers nothing off the bench

even most of his great defensive work is edge type stuff (making big one on one tackles on the goal line etc), i don't think he would do enough off the bench in the mids to be worthy of a selection

I thought I read that he was very high up in the "metres after contact" stat that seems to be the flavour of the month atm.

Would like to see that stat, but it's another stat that can be tweaked. He isn't making s heaps of metres total, so even if it's true, he makes lots post contact, but can't make any metres pre contact, which I don't buy because he is getting the best service In the game from Smith, so where have his metres gone, or he isn't getting involved. But I'd assume if he is making them post contact, he'd bust a few more tackles or have a few more line breaks, possibly some more offloads also, but he isn't.

I think more likely it is a other brilliant ploy by Mal and Qld to pick for Aus some NSW guys they want to play against at Origin in the hope we feel forced to select them overmore in form players.

Seriously, the more I look at Maclean and his numbers the more I just go, wow, what is he actually doing?

His post contact metres must be MASSIVE to get him in the conversation cause by every other measure his numbers are average at best. Lord Dale is going waaaay better, even Smith agrees.

I'm not a fan of JJ, but not a hater and can totally understand this position, and agree he starts on the right or he doesn't play at all. I think he will be there.

I can agree with the comments on Woods also, I wouldn't be devastated if he missed, in fact I was hoping his injury would keep him out, but thought that might have meant Tamou was safe, and he surely can't be there.

Qld have shown blind loyalty to their players and we could do worse than show similar loyalty to the bulk of players that won us game three, the halves included. But there must be some changes.

i don't think mclean is as far as away as you are suggesting, i often think he plays some really good footy, however he shouldn't be in front of any of

    fifita
    Klem
    Vaughn
    Jake T
    Paulo
    Woods

    and probably a few others

i'd even rather locks like JDB and finucane over him

i'm more worried about them picking boyd, every time i watch him this year, i am pretty unimpressed

yeah look, i've always been a fence sitter with woods, i think he is better then some make out but i just think we have a fair few other props playing well this year that could offer more. he is a solid, safe option, but we're gonna solid, safe elsewhere, we don't need to at prop imo

wallace was told he was in this morning but scans came back just now and he is gone for 4-6

peats is the guy now i think, i am fairly happy about that but it makes me want to carry a 9 on the bench and i'm not sure jack bird does that

Bird at centre, Hayne/Teddy to share FB and Left Wing. Peachey as the utility Craig Wing style and I'd be very happy with that. I don't think we need two straight up hookers, so Peachey perfectly fits the bill.

    His games so far this year are;

    11 runs for 134m
    13/148
    11/132
    8/91
    9/98
    10/112
    8/78
    12/118
    12/111

He's average 11m/run... the great white myth of PG13 is at 9.4m. Woods 9.5m. Fifi 9.1m. Mannah at 9.4m, but obviously makes up for it with roll ball speed.

8 forwards in front of you is a fair few. All that you have named should get a run before him.

Fair enough, I'm a fan of the metres per run stat so that is certainly an improvement for mine. It's been a stat I've argued for previously to suggest Gallen has a great work rate but isn't as effective as others so I'm not gonna counter argue against myself to suit my case against Maclean. This puts him back in the justifiable category for mine.

I'm not sure your numbers are exactly right though, I have him at 10.7 and Mannah at 9.9. Perhaps if both played 50+ minutes, they'd be in the convo more. The Eels always suffer when he is off.

See folks, I'm happy to admit when I have erred!!

Not our best side but not our worst. Vaughan super unlucky but the likes of Jackson, Klemmer and Woods were never going Tom be dropped. Surely the time is now for Fifita to start and get us off to a flyer.

Likely different stat providers, slight tweaks.

i'm worried jackson is gonna be starting lock and playing in the middle, my comments earlier about him on the bench are the same for lock

people like matty johns start this with his "put him in the middle and let him work rubbish" but all the great defensive work he does is edge type stuff, he offers nothing in the middle, to me, picking a specialist edge backrower to start the game in the middle show how out of touch origin coaches can be compared to club coaches

I can't see the arguments against to be honest.

But the main reason for, is he is NSW best halfback and is in better form than any other NSW Origin hopeful. To me, that's all that needs to be asked for NSW.

Not disappointed in that team but think that bench is too light, Vaughan or James should of been on the bench in place of Graham IMO. Reckon they win origin one with JT likely missing
