Just walked around for about 30 mins to finally try give the game a proper go. Only caught about 4-5 Pokemon and they all seem like duds

They will at the start especially if you are in a rural area without lures, etc

I'm Lvl 5 and caught a CP 232 Golbat on the way to work with is over a 100CP more than the next so guess i got lucky

Question:
If I use the incense which lasts 30 mins, do I remain put in the same spot or do I go walk abouts?
And is there any location where it may be better to use? (Not talk about the stops)

Edit: or should I use the insense when I am a higher level?

My three highest are are 122 Pinsir, 83 pidgeotto and a 57 doduo

Use the incense now if you want. I like to use mine at home because when you are moving around you are more likely to encounter something. You wont get like swarmed, but they come more frequently.

So you gain exp every time you catch a Pokemon, and it varies depending on which you catch?

Nah. Its 100exp per catch, or 600 if its a new mon. I meant they are great for leveling by evolving, not just catching in general.

No worries. I'm happy to answer any questions but there will be lots of guides on Youtube too. Might learn easier seeing it done rather than just words on the screen. But i'm defo happy to help if you have any questions 100%

You dont really want to power up anything. For example, Lets say you have a.. Pinsir (You have one) Later on in the game, maybe tonight, tomorrow, in 1 weeks time you will find one in the wild that will be a lot more powerful than your current one.

Evolve Zubats, Caterpies, Weedles and pidgeys because they are really really common. 500xp per evolution, 1k if its a new mon added to your pokedex.

The most common Pokemon I've caught has been doduo, caught about 10 of them. Must just be my location

Holy shit yeah. Tell you what, Transfer the 9 lowest CP Dodou, then if you have enough candy, evolve the highest CP one.
