Other than Pieman's illogical nonsense, most are applauding the Broncos for once again being the benchmark both on and off the field.

In a year or so's time when this is but a distant memory, Haas will probably be thankful the Broncos put him on the right track.
This (as opposed to cheating the cap) is why we can keep blokes for under's.

Bench mark on the field? It's been over a decade since you've won anything. Hardly call that a benchmark.

I remember reading a quote from a well respected rugby league sage
Rugby League Sage wrote:If on field benchmarks are grand finals, Melbourne, Roosters, Manly & Canterbury have appeared in more this century. Warriors, Parramatta & Nth QLD have appeared in as many and Tigers, Newcastle, Cronulla, Souths, Dragons & Penrith have won as many. 13 out 15 sides have had comparable or better grand final success. Off field only Parramatta, Cronulla, Warriors, Canterbury and Melbourne have been tainted with salary cap scandals like the Andrew Gee one the Broncos experienced, leaving 2/3rds of the comp with a better off field record

If JDB or any player is stood down pending charges I don’t think the clubs should get salary cap relief. The players and clubs demanded more ownership of the game now its time to pay up.

And the player is continued to be paid ? He can train but not play ? The club essentially continues 1 player short of their roster or can they back fill without a cap increase ? Can they get relief from the NRL to bring up a tier 2 player everything else being equal ? What if the case goes longer than the players contract ?

    Exactly right.
There is every chance he has been requested to stand down, or has requested to stand down as he doesn't want to cop abuse in a trial match.

His trial isnt until April 17 so it wouldnt be surprising to see him "stand down" until then. That would be the start of round 6 if the trial is fast and he is found not guilty. It would def be in the club's best interests and in his own best interested to be out of the limelight until his verdict is reached.

It wont even start then. Hypothetical he' stood down. Look at Walker he was up last week and gets put off until April. Lawyer says time for evidence collection, blah blah, it will be Sept. before his trial starts. What if he's off contract come November, trial is still going on, now he's unemployed because of it and he's found not guilty. Who does he sue ?

if you decide standing JDB is the way to go, you're still going to have to pay him while he is yet to be found guilty and if the game is gonna take this step of standing these guys down then i think its only fair the clubs payments to those players arn;t included in the cap

He would sue the club if they stood him down against his will
He could sue the NRL if the NRL tells the club to stand him down

He is refusing to stand down now anyway, so its in the NRL's hands.

Prior to today's shit storm of announcements, Scott Bolton's punishment has been reported. Not sure if this is a good thing or the NRL have gone a bit school teacher on him ??

DT wrote:North Queensland Cowboys veteran Scott Bolton facing the game’s most bizarre punishment.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal Bolton not only faces a six-week suspension but an embarrassing tour of shame around the 16 NRL clubs to show the CCTV footage of him assaulting a woman in a bar last year.
The unique penalty is about the Cowboys enforcer taking ownership and responsibility for his actions which will now be used to warn other players of the perils of bad behaviour.
However embarrassing, Bolton’s tour of shame will save him from a much heftier NRL imposed 10-match ban. He is still, however, facing the six-week suspension.

JDB will be stood down from playing.
Walker decision will be made in the coming days.

    I don't like it.

Reeks of the NRL trying to look like they are doing something following a debacle of an off season.

Problem is reactionary decisions like this always come back to bite the NRL on the arse.

Excellent decision, and stance, in my opinion.

    Something had to be done.

Is Jarryd Hayne contracted for 2019? I assume this will rule him out too. Anything hanging over Matt Lodge in the US still? Zane Musgrove?

Yep. What happens when a guy loses his contract over this then gets found not guilty 18 months later when it finally goes through court?

Is he stood down with pay?

If he is paid fully while standing down then what leg does he have to stand on if he is found not-guilty? rep payments or something if it stops him from getting picked?

I think its a ridiculous decision... I mean, yeah fuck him off if found guilty but standing someone down before that is insane.

Exactly Dip - they now have to stand walker down, hayne (I know i know) etc. Where does it stop? Anyone with an assault charge? anyone with a DUI charge? I mean, its all breaking the law...
