Also do people have a rule about how good reserves need to be? like sometimes i tweak my team and i think yass but then 2/4 reserves are rookies, is that normal?

I have been dabbling with a mid-range bench of Daifiti, JWH, Gurgess, Wallace but everytime I just end up slotting a gun in front for better balance
You are thinking the wrong way about your reserves, they are just as important as your playing 13 (afterall, they have the same chance to score as many points). To illustrate this point, you could put a gun like Surgess into your reserves and your rookie into your playing team and it would make no difference. So there is no point tricking out your team to the point that your reserves are super weak because you may as well be going in with rookie starting props.

Unless your rookies are scoring well. Then go for it.

Last year quite a few people got caught out by mid range props like LAM, evans, grant etc. These players averaged around 30 points a game while your gun props were cracking 50.
Personally id like to start with at least one keeper in that position rather than trying to upgrade all those mid rangers but im on a crusade to save trades in the long run this season!

Good points HB , I am going to take a punt on Gurgess hoping his injury woes are behind him also throwing the dice with Wallace, Daniel Saifiti and Musgrove hoping at least one will pay dividends, I just feel there is a bit of value there amongst that lot.

The gun props all play 50+ mins, so there is a big discrepancy between a gun and a midrange prop and even a so called cash cow prop. Every year you get stuck with a cash cow prop averaging 20-25 mins who maybe makes 50-60K at best. Sometimes the midrangers can be worse, not even earning anything and scoring 30 while Fifita/Graham are scoring 60s.
I reckon it is the hardest position to make cash out of quickly, so will be locking in a few players at various price levels.
Fifita, Vaughan, AFB and ? (maybe a rookie but not sure).

Last year we had Jake Trobjevic, but he went to 80 mins at lock, Ryan James who killed it, Dylan Napa and David Klemmer(actually lost money in first third of season) and S Mataora (AFB will be his equivalent this year) as significant money makers. No1 else really comes to mind at the start of the season. Outside of these three the money was made on second rowers with an increased role/more mins/coming back from injury previous year. I reckon you can afford to gamble more on second rowers than props.

I'm not sold on AFB... why do you think he will do well, and what scores do you expect of him?

Kyle Lovett named in the Tigers 9s team.

Obviously not having the success they were reportedly after in moving him on (nor do they apparently care about his drug possession charge)

He became a starting prop at the end of last year and averaged 36 when starting (from 4 games)
Priced at an average of 26.

Picking guys due to some good form at the end of the previous year often screams trap (think Leeson Ah Mau) but he's nethertheless someone I am keeping my eye on

Lussick is out for first five rounds.
Myles is another year older and a plodder.
Lawrence has been shopped around and has had history of injuries.
Lloyd Perrett would be 4th prop for first five rounds so chance he doesn't get many minutes.
No Buhrer taking 80 minutes, so two of Kennedy/Sironen/Brown/Lane will be in team
    Brown has been shopped around.
    Hastings/Api will share hooker/utility duties.

He just about becomes prop number 1 based on that and with a full pre-season could push on.
Only played two games over 40 minutes last year, but averaged 42 when he did. If he gets 40 minutes (which he should), given his potential for attacking stats I wouldn't be surprised if he averages 40, but il be happy to get consistent 35's from a player priced at $253,000. I just think there is less risk here than going with Gurgess, Wallace , Prior.

I prefer Vaughan and AFB than two of D Saifiti, Gurgess, Wallace or Prior. Each to their own though.

The timeline I think was that he was announced in the team Friday, and then Saturday morning told the club about his charge. Allthough something doesn't seem right and bluetige thought it was all over another forum prior.

With all this talk of Vaughan what do people think hes going to produce at the Dragons that he couldn't produce at Canberra?

likely tyrone roberts will play as a utility if Taylor + Elgey are the starting halves.

I think there is a fair chance Roberts starts the season in the 6 though?

I havent had a look at minutes etc but if he plays Moopers role then he is potentially up for me game time.

I'm with you, Titans were one of the favourites for the spoon and ended up playing Finals. Not sure why you would change what got them there. I think the problem though is Roberts is a 'better' option to be the utility then anyone else?

As MTB said, Tyrone Roberts is a chance at utility this year.

Karl Lawton I think is their next best specialist hooker.

Ryan Simpkins appears on their bench a lot and cal also play as hooker.

pretty good analysis. he started in rnd 25 and 26 last year which is the two games he got those mins. looking at that sea eagles side though its hard to see anyone else starting the match at prop other than AFB, unless taupau was to start prop again.

the only downside with AFB is there's just not alot to go off. he did not play alot of mins in 2016. its a bit of a gut feel pick, but could turn out to be a good one. a bit like when Gurgess burst onto the scene. he's at a tricky price if it doesnt work out.

For some reason thinking Lawton is primarily a half. Roberts starting halves and Simkins on the bench makes more sense to me. Mid you, when you have some big minute front rowers you may not want to waste a spot on the bench with 4 forwards.

Yeah, but it has happened before, though adds eight to him being in the 17 Round 1.
