True, but better than wasting trades on centres each week. It’s a stupid position that should be lumped in with WFB

It's way less stupid than previous years though with Bird, Manu and Lemuelu. Getting all three of them will ideally* rid you of any centre worries moving forward (*in reality I know they all won't last)

There are more CTRs averaging over 50, and over 40, than WFBs. And you only need 2 instead of 3. Yet the mindset is “don’t worry about centres” while we agonise over which WFBs to have. Discuss.

Yeah, I don't think he's anywhere near selection.  Not for the first game anyway.  Maybe if we get dominated he may be in contention for game 2 but we won last year, Billy won't stray far from who got the job done for him.  Also, it would be silly if he did.  Second year of coaching.  He kind of fluked the win last year (no disrespect) so I would think coming into his second year and changing things too much wouldn't be the smartest move.

I think we stick loyal for game 1 and then look at other options if we lose that first game.

It doesn’t matter if Horse is picked for game 2 as bye is R16. Only Game 1 and 3 matter

Roosters have an open training at Langlands Park Coorparoo on Saturday at midday, if any nerds want to go and find out if Walker and/or B Smith are going to play.

Exactly why I'm thinking of trading in Bird for Miller, more certain scoring for an extra $60k), then running Manu in WFB. Can then keep Sloan as cover and for rd13 (in addition to having Bula for cover too).

My conclusion is buying someone like Croker at CTR now is like buying AKP or Warbrick at WFB now. Maybe worse given the position has better scoring and less scarcity

    Controversial take:

CTR should be combined with EDG.

Eh not really, its just how it is. Keeping byes in mind is important, but round 13 isn't the be all and end all, and teams who have trades up their sleeve will move through that period a lot easier when they can use those trades once the byes actually roll around, once origin teams are selected, etc

I haven't actually looked at how many I (potentially) have yet, but that's probably because my rank is not very impressive.

I've gone fairly early on R13 (11 at the moment, but will probably pick up another one or two on the eve if they make sense), with an eye to R14 (making sure I only have three between Eels/Knights/Manly) and a route out for R16 (have 7 in current squad. Doubt I'll get to 13 for that but should be close). Admit that I haven't looked at the last bye at all. Also have four guaranteed Origin players (Haas, Cleary, Difita, Ted), so I fail Matt's test, I guess. Hopefully they score enough in all the other weeks to compensate.

Mentioned before that I'll probably get smacked in the face with marginal Origin call-ups (Horsburgh, Robson, Hammer) or injuries (anyone), but can't do anything about that (other than to have had the patience to wait a bit longer before looking at byes).

As you say, people who've banked a lot of trades can get to this status pretty easily over the next few weeks. I've only banked three, so have to limit moves having gone early.

It's also not that relevant if you have big bye round numbers but they include a lot of relatively dead wood like Weekes, Crossland, ITT, Granville, BMM who are going to clog up your squad and not even score that well in the standalone round. (I do have BMM but not counting him in my bye planning because he'll be gone for the next decent cash cow , whether they play R13 or not)

    R13 currently

    Robson
    JDB Hors xx
    Lane Ford
    SJ, DBrown
    Lemu, Bird
    Miller, Hammer, xx

Agreed, I've read/heard a few times don't worry about getting one of Bird/Lemuelu/Manu if you already two of them in your centres because your team will be unbalance with all 3 keeper CTRs, when really being able to play Manu in the WFB is the real value.

Horse the only one that could be an origin selection. Do we think 10/11 might be a good number?

Think who you have is more important than how many. Someone that has 3 WFB and 2 CTR might score less than someone with 1 HOK and 2 HLF

That was my thinking when I traded in Null last week.

Yeah, Gagai is averaging higher than every WFB bar Mitchell. Campbell Graham isn't far off either.

Keen to get a gauge on trades remaining on here. Get the feeling a lot of us have only saved a couple (myself included).

After planned trades this round I'll have 17 left (excluding the extras we get later)

MID seems to be the best positon for the first bye with JDB, Tapine, Tohu, AFB, Matterson, Hopgood all capable of going big that week. Think you probably need a better HLF2 than Niko as well. But aside from that you will fly up the ranks with that squad

Havent been able to save any yet, too many wasted on injuries, then needing to play catch up because of that, to get the squad in decent shape to gain ranks quickly. Can finally start to ease off now that the team is in good shape and have set up well for the byes.
