Anyone think the tigers hooking situation could be similar to Raiders/Starling from last year? E.g. Liddle named to start but then Simpkins comes on off the bench and plays 50-60 mins.

No because the Raiders were only able to do that because Havilli has the body to play in the forwards which allowed Starling to play hooker majority of the game. I doubt Liddle would be switched into the forward rotation and I also doubt Liddle only gets 20 minutes to start the game at hooker then sit on the bench for the rest of the game

Liddle will play most minutes with a Mbye rotation till Walters is fit. Then it may change to resemble somthing like your example

Didn’t Simpkin play lock, in the first trial, when Liddle came on? Simpkin looked the better hooker too!

When NRL fantasy opened up Liddle was a automatic start up in my 14 to 17. As we ever so slowly inch towards TLT I find myself questioning that decision after watching him and Simpkins play in the trials. Liddle played like someone going thru the motions ( as did Bird ) in another trial. I can fully understand their attitude after the horrendous injuries both have suffered and to their credit they keep on trying against these adversities. However there are only so many crocs we can have in our teams. Watson, J.Brailey and Lodge are in my squad at the moment. This is not going to be a happy ending for all involved.
I may just place Simpkins in the NPR's, pocket the coin and wait for the inevitable. I also am tossing up between Moylan and Averillo!!!

Sometimes you don't want to make too much of trial performance. I'm looking at you Lomax Finger

Though I currently have Liddle in my EMG, however it means I'm starting 2 of Niu/Simonsson/Laurie and I probably won't stick with this draft for long

Noob question. Can someone please explain how origin lines up with the rounds? So the origin games are between round 13/14, 15/16, and 17/18, right?

What NRL rounds do origin players tend to miss?

Round 13 and Round 17 are definite ones (however their club will have a bye on one of these rounds)

Origin 2 is in Rep Round where there are no club games so no games missed

So basically it is one game less than non-Origin player and then potential for extra rest but can’t be completely known until it happens really

Not at all. The draft is taking care of those cravings nicely.

I've been thinking about the likelihood of Laurie taking the FLB spot and MBye (who seems very likely to be FLB come round 1) shifting to 14 utility - it all seems to make good sense as a fan.

    But then reality comes in to gatecrash the MBye utility party;
    - The last time MBye played off the interchange bench was Round 19 in 2014.
    - His last 126 games have all been in the starting 13 (albeit at Fullback, Center, Five-eighth, Half, Hooker in that time).
Regardless the position, he always starts, and barring injury he plays 80 every time.

    So, the way I see it, the only likely roads to Laurie being the starting Fullback is;

    A) Missing Centre: Roberts out due to injury/off-field issues (possible), Leilua injury/suspension ( Shocked) - Hoffman/Talau could be the fix though.
MBye selected at Centre in 59% of games under Madge.

    B) Hooker: Liddle down (unfortunately very likely); would Simpkin start AND play 80? - no other specialists (or Elijah Taylor) in the squad.
This suggests MBye is in the Hooker contingency plan. He has had 1 start at Hooker in his 32 games under Maguire.

    C) Halves: Doueihi/Brooks injury/failure to perform - Walters & Madden are the main cover here.
MBye hasn't played in the halves for over 3 years - and seems the most unlikely position.

Incidentally, MBye has been selected at Fullback in 38% of his games under Madge. It's never been exactly successful, but with a new halves pairing and a relatively inexperienced Hooker, it may long stay as the preferred option simply due to inexperience.

Conclusion: IMO Laurie & Simpkin both have the most talent for their respective positions, but there really doesn't seem like many scenarios early on where they could have good Job Security to allow for success. If the Tigers tank early this season then that may be their best avenue (the Tigers play five top-8 teams in the first six rounds).

This made me think of Corona happening again and if the NRL has a plan B involved.

Could be a good idea to make a second team loaded up on Origin players and ignore the byes.

I took Saifit out of my team as I just don’t see him getting 60 like I expected with Klemmer, Watson and the other one. The position I liked the least was WFB so I put all the cash into their and ended up with this team:

    Brailey
    Crichton Watson Koloa
    Fifita Riki
    Cleary Munster
    Bird Roberts
    Tedesco Papenhuyzen RTS

    Lam Davey Simpkin Averillo
    Simpkins Stefano Niu Marzhew
    +2k
I don’t really like this team due to the poor bench it thought it was interesting

Could alternately have a bench of Lodge LAM Davey Simpkin / Simpkins Marzhew Niu Stefano
