I've heard getting the flu shot increases your chances of getting covid cos your immune is down temporarily while fighting the flu jab. Whatever the case flu shot has naught to do with covid it shouldn't be mandatory
The key benefit is that it will lower the chance of having Covid like symptoms, that could put a scare through camp and get you stood down until cleared.

Would expect big winner at manly to be waddell, maybe 60+ minutes as a big minute starter.

Would love leleisiaou getting  a start, straight in my team, but titans just signed tonomopeaia (spelling?) What happened to kelly?

    Who is out for bulldogs?

Kelly and Sione Katoa (bulldogs hooker, not Sharks wing) also refused the vaccinations I heard so there's 10 in total, 9 if you don't count Peats. Forgot about Tonomoupea, would be interesting since he hasn't played since mid 2018 right?

I think it gives you flu like symptoms for a couple days, not sure though. *edit - the jab gives flu symptoms

Yeah, I don't know about that, mate. In the current climate, a sore throat or cough or sniffle is probably going to get you tested and separated from your team until you're cleared. I don't think having a flu shot changes anything in that regard because they'll be tested fr showing any symptoms, flu shot or not.

Teeth Eater wrote:I'd like to see the statistics and research which shows how many NRL player or associates of NRL players have been admitted to hospital in the past because an NRL player did not get a flu shot. I don't need stats by year... an overall number from the last 100 years would be fine. If we're getting this ridiculous, I assume there must be something to back up this kind of madness?

It's like forcing all NRL players to shave their heads so there is not an outbreak of hair lice amongst players and their families.

I know that's stupid, but it's never been an issue in the history of the NRL so why would it be now? In fact, even more so now, with the strict new cleaning and temperature testing measures etc. I just don't get what having the flu shot changes in the NRL world. You can still get the flu and you can still pass the flu on after a flu shot. It just makes your personal experience with it less displeasing.

But, all that said. If we're getting ridiculous and that's the way the NRL is going, why the fuck does it have to turn into such a massive issue, like everything?

"Sorry kids, Daddy doesn't have a job anymore and there will be no dinner tonight because my stupid fucking God doesn't want me to get a flu shot."

What are these guys actually potentially risking? Their 2020 season and income? Or their career? I don't know, but is this compulsory flu shot temporary or will this be a new regulation of the game? Is it meant to just be in effect while Covid-19 exists, or is it permanent?

Apologies for the rant... just need to get this stuff out my head.

Gus mentioned on his latest podcast that it was done every year at the Panthers and no one ever refused. One player getting the flu then spreading it through the club can mean 2-3 losses on the trot. Anyone that has properly had the flu knows how hard it is to even breathe, let alone play sport

Drinkwater even more must have than he was before. Likely to have Asiata next to him and do almost all the kicking. Morgan kicked 530m last round.

And if you get a double strike of the flu and C19 you are in big trouble apparently. So taking flu out of the equation seems sensible.

I have it every year as I work with the public and my Sister has an immune condition. I have never had an issue or reaction to the jab.

The flu jab doesn’t cover all strains but it helps a lot and I haven’t had the flu in years (just sinus infections).
If you get one of the bad strains of the flu though and you haven’t had the jab then you are even more susceptible to COVID. Also if a bad strain of flu runs through a team that’s gonna not be good at all even moreso this year.

I think at this time it’s very reasonable that the government have approached it in this manner.

No jab no play as far as I’m concerned, it’s not that hard. We will march on without the ones that sook.

As far as I’m aware on religion no religion says don’t have a flu injection. I’m sick of the anti vaxxer’ BS as well.

Regular flu and corona aren't the same "species" of virus. It's like putting in bird netting to stop foxes burrowing in to your chook pen

But you don't want hawks and foxes in your chook pen at the same time. That could get very messy Wink
