10 out of 16 teams making the finals you're joking!!

The worst idea in a long time. The idea is to reduce the number of dead rubber games at the end of the season (from avg 22 to 13) but by doing this they effectively make the first half a season dead rubbers.

So if they want to do that they find another 6 new teams to join the comp and have 1st and 2nd division (call division what you want). Introduce promotion and relegation to reduce them dead rubbers. 12 teams in each division so they can actually play each other twice each season. Obviously only teams in the top division play out the semis to get to the GF. Teams in 2nd division play their finals with the GF winner promoted at the experiences of bottom team in division 1?
helps with less dead rubbers and promotes a few more games with interest??

I could just picture Pete and Todd sitting there and strategising how they can take the heat off their foolish decision to start playing judge, jury and executioner.

Yeah, not going to happen.

promotion/relegation is a terrible idea, it's a good way to disillusion half of the fan-base in one fell swoop and then have yearly bouts of "congrats, your team sucked for one year, so now you get to watch them run around in a division that doesn't matter for god knows how many years"

I said in the fantasy thread that this system makes sense if, and only if, it's being brought up in preparation for the league expanding when the broadcast rights are renewed, as every-one else here has already stated, 10 of 16 teams in the final series is dumb, just like i was heated by the 1-2 Womens Roosters team playing in a grand final last year, the idea that there will undoubtedly be teams with losing records given a finals spot every year is pretty gross.

The pool of talent would be so diluted that it would end up being like watching reserve grade 12 times a week.

Seems like a good idea to implement after the next expansion, whenever that is. I could get around what is essentially a top 6 + 4 wildcards in an 18 team comp but not 16.

By trying to get less dead rubbers in the last month of the season, all they are doing is devaluing every other game in the previous 22 weeks.

Also, as LG mentioned, great way to stop the media from talking about the location of each players dick at any one time.

Thats the problem the WBBL has. I love that the players are getting a run on TV... But apart from Green Melbourne, Pink Sydney and Brisbane, fuck me there are some ordinary players. The talent pool isnt enough to put 8 professional standard teams out there, especially when they stack 3 of the sides full of national reps. The final series was great but some of the round games were unwatchable.

Yes -> Throw plan into time capsule never to be opened until 2547.
No -> Run idea past someone who actually has some idea.

If the sole reason for the idea is to have less dead rubbers, why not go whole hog and have a 16 team finals series. Realistically, the best way to reduce the number of dead rubbers is to shorten the season. That's not going to happen while broadcast rights are so high though.

So we are going to have a pre season elimination comp as our finals series.

I actually kind of like the idea of a wildcard. But not by adding 2 teams to the finals.
It should be the top 6 make the finals then the last 2 spots should be the wildcards. The final 2 spots are always just cannon fodder anyway.

Sorry, I read the comments on here and took it as still having the top 8 but adding 2 more teams as wildcards

Its a top 6 + 4 teams fighting for 2 wildcard spots. So 10 teams total.

After the events of last few weeks, the NRL didn't see any problem with adding another week of Mad Monday celebrations in the weeks leading up to the their headline matches.
