Not that I am singling them out in any way, just about every club would be finding loopholes in the salary cap with TPAs and whatnot. The Roosters just happen to be able to do it better than anybody else because Politis owns a hundred different businesses in the Sydney area. The only time clubs ever get caught breaching the salary cap is when there is a whistleblower, so clearly the most important part of salary cap management is keeping your employees that are privy to such matters from becoming disgruntled. Roosters staffers would be savvy enough to know Don Nick would have them in cement shoes at the bottom of Rose Bay if they squealed.

TL;DR- All clubs are crooked, but the Roosters are the best at it

Ew, what an ugly rant for page 51.

I retract my statement and submit this instead. Apologies that it's now on page 1, but that mightiest of fish locked the topic and this simply must be rectified. I will henceforth follow these rules more strictly once more.

I heard on NZ radio that SJ may have to sit out round 1. Something about because he was the last one signed & the cap investigation of the Sharks.

Would you pick TTurbo + Edwards + Haas or Tedesco + Mansour + 212k player

Also if you were picking between one or the other to start the season would you pick Fifita or Crichton?
Does Fifita still play Origin?? Both have key points to note with Fifita there is known fact that some FRFs start slower whereas with Crichton he's at a new club (this may actually positively impact him though - running off Cronk)

I honestly desperately hope Hughes starts over Drinkwater just so I can fund other moves by dropping 80k from there

    Thanks

The discussion cam about last year where if you picked someone who averages say 50 and misses the first bye round and doesn’t play origin you end up with 1,200 points (24x50). If you sacrifice that for someone who average 40, plays rd 12 then trade to someone averaging 50 plays second bye, say you trade them straight after rd 12 you are only getting 1,130 points (12x40 + 13x50).

Yeah, I do remember this discussion.
I think it's better just to focus on getting your team balance right without considering the bye rounds. Even so, you don't want to have too many origin players to start with (not that anyone would have the $$$ for that), and also don't have too many players from the same team in your starting line-up (I'm talking to all you Bronco fans)

Depends who your 212k player is. If Nikora starts round 1 & he's your 212k player then option b. I would go Crichton over Fifita.

imo when picking your round 1 team just pick the best team. The first 5-6 weeks you need points & price increases. From round 7/8 then focus on round 12.

I also heard Sharks are one of the clubs under deep investigation for cap issues and SJ could be the one pushing them over that cap and could be looking for a new club very soon.

I would prefer option B with Fifita as the other pick.

I think you have a great point and I am not disagreeing with you it just is interesting when looking at round 12. Not a lot of value options that will turn into keepers.

So when I was looking at I Papali'i for example I was unsure whether he will improve significantly, then I was like if I have too many other problems to fix and don't end up upgrading him I will be stuck with him and he doesn't even play round 12, so started looking at value guys who do and came across Lane as an option. Papali'i has just as much risk as Lane was my thinking.

This is probably best case scenario. It's tough though, if your cows are scoring well and making money do you hold them and keep making cash, obviously if they are scoring well enough. I am looking at probably have 3-4 cows in my 1-17 and then obvs the rest in 18-21 and i am hoping (PRAYING TO JEEBUS) that at least 2 go boom and become another Kikau, another 2 become an Isaako/CHompson and make some good coin early on. Last year there was room for a lot more value on the bench and only needed about 4-5 cows in you 1-21 compared what i think will be roughly 7-8 cows this year.

Wouldn't it be hard case if he ended up back at the Warriors but the Warriors offer him half that he's on atm because it's SJ's only option & all other clubs have full rosters. They always say in business sell high & buy low

That article said the only two clubs with some room in their cap for Johnson would be Eels or Tigers but apparently Tigers are about to sign Rennings from South Sydney (AJ to wing, Allan to FB?).

So Tigers have cap space to sign Robert Jennings or Shaun Johnson, but not both. Which one would we pick?

The whole SJ out thing sounds like a bunch of made up guesswork. Would be surprised if anything happens.

Unless Storm are under serious investigation i would say we have some spare cash laying around. We have lost Cronk, Slater, Hoffman, Glasby in the last few season and we have picked up Kasiano and Vete, yes we have re-signed the likes of Hughes, Smith's, Croft, Munster but surely they couldn't be demanding much more than what they were already on. I reckon we have some spare money laying around, bellyache on Ponissi have someone in their eyes over the next year or two they want to sign, especially when Smith hangs up his boots.
