But that's impossible to predict. If your criteria for trading him out is if he misses three games, you won't know about it until after he has already missed the first one. And once he has missed the first one you missed the trade out boat because he then only misses two more, which by your criteria warrants holding him. It doesn't work.

There will be some talk leading up if Bellamy will look at resting Smith or not. We will have some indication leading up. We won't just get a teamlist one Tuesday with Smith surprisingly not on there. If he gets rested it will be the week after origin which won't hurt too much if you wait a week.

Peachy to the Titans next year.

I'm thinking, for a lot of you guys running Hiku, I think Whare would be better for around the same price. I'm not a stat man so can't comment but Hiku is rubbish and Whare use to be somewhat of a gun. With Peachy out, he will see the bench and Whare will have the other centre spot locked up. Panthers more inclined to get some attacking play than the Warriors too obviously.

I disagree, he will be coy as fuck as usual.

Panthers have a pretty good opening draw also. But I think he will be a very slow burn who may or may not make much money.

Warriors to play more expansive footy this year. Top 8 most likely. For this reason, I think Mannering is going to drop down a bit, his average anyway. Other side of the coin is that he may get more tries. I'd say 55 average, think he averaged around 60 last year?

What make up are people having with their 14-21 man squad? 1 Hooker, 3 Forwards, 1 half 2 backs?

I agree but I was only comparing him with Hiku, I think he could be a better option than Hiku.

Remember last season? No-body knew and there was a lot of discussion on it!

There were two camps here that were posting:

    1) saying don't trade out Smith as he would play/wouldnt get rested or play reduced minutes, generally citing previous seasons as their rationale and

    2) saying it was worth trading Smith out cause this time might be different, but actually their main rationale was based on running the numbers simply based on the time he would miss through byes and origin regardless of any additional time he may or may not get off.

In the context of the discussion you are having though, it doesn't really matter who was right or wrong last season because the reality is at that time no-one knew if Smith was going to get any additional rest or not. Gonna be hard to tell this time as well one would think, until its too late.

There's also concerns that he gets injured every other time.

Yeah I remember last year well. I just have a feeling things may be a little different this year. I could just be naive though.

I for one will start with Smith. However with the new set up i think it will be a lot easier to get smith in without having to worry about the 'major surgery' in the past

eg. Lolo in 2nd row, cook at hooker and whitehead on bench. Trade out lolo, whitehead to 2nd row, cook bench smith in.

At the moment, 2 HOK, 2RF/HLF, FRF/2RF, FRF, HLF, 2RF, WFB. Pending squad list Tuesday, I'll look to find room for a CTR or switch a WFB to a WFB/CTR to ensure I have cover in case of a late withdrawal.

I know it's just an example but I don't think you'd be trading Tolo out for Smith.

    In short.

    a) You want him to retain the goal kicking when Gutherson comes back to the team
    b) You have to be prepared for a rollercoaster of high and low scores, and play him for the average
