The Wests Tigers have set their sights on Cronulla Sharks utility Kurt Capewell, as they accept the fact Ryan Matterson will not be at the club in 2020.

Throw matterson in reserves for two years, the game is beyond a joke when it comes to contracts

why do the contracts even exist? Sign everyone to 1 year deals, they aren't even worth that now tho

100% agree Pieman, I've said the same, 1 year contracts because players use and find any excuse to break a contract these days, also doesn't help when player managers are in players ears pulling the strings

Interesting that the Tigers have listed their 2020 squad with no Matterson listing him as departed. Guess an announcement is around the corner.

In the Matulino retirement article they snuck an announcement down the bottom of the article

"In addition to Matulino’s retirement, Wests Tigers have also confirmed that Ryan Matterson will depart the club effective immediately after being released from the final two years of his playing contract. Matterson has played 24 games for Wests Tigers after joining the club at the start of the 2019 season."

Shows how quickly the relationship has become toxic as they didn't even write a separate article about him. Will be interesting where he ends up and see if he ends up doing similar actions in another contract

Looks like he will sign on for 3 years at Parra for around 1.6mill, so just over $500kpa. Probably about right if he can kick on with this years form and crack Origin.

Honestly - why wouldnt the tigers match that instead of losing him?

He is clearly worth that now - and with the way contracts work these days - why not just upgrade him? He is turning into an elite back-rower, just suck it up and pay him that. 550k per year or something isnt even that much for a player of his caliber and age.

I did hear that at the roosters they were happy to let him go because of his attitude tho.. so maybe they are just happy to get rid of his personality.

Normally I would agree you match it, because he's worth it. As Robbie said you're 1 year into a deal, back it up next year and talk about upgrading the 3rd year. He wasn't wanted and was thrown a lifeline. Madge came out the other day in response to the war chest we now have and said we would be targeting props and centres, but culture was important. That I think is why he didn't get the upgrade. He could have done himself a massive injustice and be playing for the Waratahs before his Parramatta contract is up.

yeah he would have had his upgrade halfway though the season anyway if he stuck around - so he is either getting some bad advice or just didn't want to be at the tigers.

Arrow is all quality, workhorse and surprised more teams aren't after him

Brimson can play 1 or 6 and that's a great option

Mitchell would be worth 900k if he plays fullback and finds his feet in his first year but not as a centre

For sure, he will find his feet back at fullback IMO and will be very very good there, similarly to Inglis. Centre allows him to float in and out of the game too much.

Leilua signing, he could be good if he gets fit.. besides that.. meh.
