I totally understand the Matterson appeal and can see him doing well over the origin period if Hopgood gets selected.
Both Matto and Carty have money to make and provide good cover for the bye period. Matto provides a nice DPP, but I think Carty will probably provide a bit more value post origin.
And for me Carty is a fun pick ( a la Booze)

What do you think the better strategy is for someone who has started the season poorly, max trading for little gain?

TU: Use trades to maximise bye round points.
TD: Only use trades to aim for final 17 players.

Assuming it had to be one of the other, not a combination of the two.

Ended up on 974 jumping 4K in places from 28k to 24k.

Best part is no injuries or bedshits so should be able to go tradeless this round for the first time this season 🤞

Only KPP and Armstrong out too so team not too weak.

    I voted TU.

Why aim for 17 final players and a steady finish?

Push now over the byes and see if you can that high rank earlier and ride some luck to the end!

History shows the final 17 is such a moving target, and many midrange/bye type players often match guns late anyway

Depends on risk appetite and wouldn’t go too stupid, but I wouldn’t back off. Like Bart Simpson said, you don’t catch up by going slower cuckoo cuckoo

I think lots of people lean towards throwing caution to the wind when behind - and then like 60% of teams end up inactive. If we assume that we're not doing this because we deeply care about being ranked 3k instead of 5k, but instead are enjoying a hobby, then making sure you can keep paying in the last round makes sense

I too am very interested in the answer to this.

At the moment I have no idea what I’m trying to do. Tried a mix last week with Haas and DBrown keepers (low team value so he will have to do even with Moses back). And getting bye guys DBrown and Weekes.

Didn’t really work. Lost 4K worth of rank

Team looks pretty good other than that one MID spot. I would've gone Cleary to Yeo/Hopgood last week to sure it up, but might be better to wait now. Does Cleary to Tago free up enough to jump on Hopgood if missing origin next week?

I think aiming for guns and cashouts for guys like Piakura, Burbo, Kris, Shughes and Moale when they've outlived their usefulness is a good strategy.

I think he's a good shout for cover, I'll need someone to cover JMK in 14, so I won't jump on just yet.
Havili's DPP might come in handy in 16 and 19 as well.
Maybe someone else will pop up, but he looks like a good stopgap solution

I have Havili already and he is just that a stop gap, with the unlikely potential to go big. I am not disappointed and I will trade him out after R20 for the run home

Wishart has made me close to 100k the last two weeks. Just need him to play next week and R16 for him to have paid his way. He will play a lot more minutes it Munster is out long term and I am happy I took the risk when I did
