Wouldnt shock me if Mullen comes back in 3.5 years time on a cheap deal for a really good team that needs a half. Feel sorry for the bloke, comes across as a genuinely nice guy but made some bad choices.

If he played for cronulla he would have got off scott free, so what can ya do.

Its a blessing in disguise for newie. Get his massive 700k or whatever contract off the books and in 3.5 years time, sign for the minimum as a backup half when the club is back competitive.

Its a shame that Evans signed with the Eels, would have loved to get him, depending on the cash of course.

I hope we chase Gordon and or Mitchell.

His ban is an NRL one - yeah? So there's nothing stopping him playing French Rugby or ESL or following his dream to be a 49ers running back. At least he'll still be in shape when his ban expires.

Jesus, is recruitment so bad that you dream of signing a guy in 2021 who hasn't played 4 years and was injury prone for the 5 years straight before that and will be 33 then. Why not hope to sign Mundine instead.

I don't think there is any way anyone signs Mullen mate. If he wasn't so damned injury prone maybe, but that combined with everything else, highly unlikely.

saying signing for a minimum as a back up half is "dreaming" of signing him?

Hopefully the SKD drug charge means the Knights dodge a bullet. Signing that guy would be a major mistake

Another case of a poor team getting arse raped without lube by a richer club. The NRL has to make TPA's fairer as it makes the salary cap a joke

Talk about getting kicked while your already down

The NRL reward clubs who can attract TPA's, I think its time they reward clubs who can produce juniors

What's wrong with rewarding clubs and players that bring money into the game? Without it we just end up a nursery for other codes.

I love gagai as a player but we are already paying him 600k or so a season, so one assumes that if Souths have signed him, he has signed for 600k plus. And that, my friends, is overs for a centre.

Last season and at times this year, he looks like he is the only one trying. Shame to lose him if true but happy we didn't fuck up our future long term by breaking the bank for a centre.

I won't believe it till it's announced tho.

Clearly clubs who produce local juniors should Be rewarded more.
It's crazy that it doesn't happen on an openly obvious way already.

How would rewarding clubs for bringing through juniors make the game into a nursary for other codes?

Clubs and players should be rewarded financially for doing it - at the moment there is zero or very little incentive for clubs to invest in the local areas players because the good ones just get picked off by the roosters/broncos and co.

I agree there should be a system to reward developing juniors or bringing players into grade, I wasn't saying otherwise. I was saying there is no problem rewarding clubs that bring money into the game. There is some incentive to develop players because you should be able to keep players for the same price or less than poaching them if you have a good club environment (when was the last time you left your job where you were happy for a lower paying job). It just isn't enough of an incentive. I advocate giving a salary cap discount for each year a player is part of the contracted list, e.g. 2% of the contract per year of service is excluded from a he cap.

Why would you assume he has signed with Souths for more than his current contract?

I thought I heard it on Fox that Souths come in with TPA's and I also read that Brown was complaining Newcastle can't compete with some clubs who can offer TPA's

I don't fully understand what you mean.

All I will add to my original comment is clubs such as the Tigers, Knights, Raiders, Warriors, Panthers are great nurseries but the clubs aren't exactly successful, whereas Roosters, Storm, Sea Eagles don't have a large nursery but are hugely successful.

Time for the NRL to turn the tides I reckon
