He isn't going to be out of reach next week. You can afford to have a look at his role this week and then re-asses.

The timing of when it happens does alter minutes/rotations game to game but I think it’s reasonable to expect that the main bench forwards might get a few more minutes than “planned” every week.

TL;DR: discounting 10-15 minutes extra due to HIA is over simplistic as theres likely going to be 10-15 extra most weeks

Yeah was thinking the same and was going to post it at some point. That's my gut feel, haven't had a chance to check the actual numbers.

Don't take it back. I started with Host and I am an idiot.

Too many round 1 picks this year that failed the "good footballer" test.

Personally, I was happy to run with Croker as I thought he would score OK despite being not that good at football, but shouldn't have backed that up with further guys who were also at risk of getting dropped.

I had Gosi and Croker as my duds who I knew were terrible but picked anyway. The Lodge injury on top of that is a kick in the nads.

Just read that Capewell had a rib injury when he came off last week, but fit to play this week

My 'hypocrisy but all the right logic' pick to start 2021 was Croker...if Lodge hadn't got injured I would be peeling Croker off the bottom of my shoe with a stick right now

Don’t do it mate. Our left second rower gets used as a decoy a lot as Cody links with Latrell on that edge.

Arrow and Murray will play big mins as we know so Murray is likely to play some edge.

Su’a won’t be playing 35mins like last week.

Koloa won’t be getting 80mins, more likely to be around 55mins tbh with you.

Knight is back possibly this week too which only strengthens our middle meaning Murray likely to shift to edge.

Benji will be on at different times each week as well and is likely to come on for Su’a or Koloa.

Too much depth I think and competition for mins.

My head says no to Koloa.

I am off Ofa. Seems everything went right for him last week with uncharacteristic TBs and offloads. Looking to swap Lodge/Croker with Davey/Leniu and riding into R3 with 102k in the bank. Even when getting big mins last year at prop he averaged <10 points where he is right now. My guess is that Des is giving Gosi one more chance in the Davey vs. Gosi battle royale before sacrificing him. Davey is a much more solid defender on the edge, which is where a lot of Manly's issues lie this year.

most picks clear cut, but there's a ding-dong battle for the second centre position...

Both Egan and Biro cleared to play this week is a pity as Biro would have been a target for me next week if he had a week off

This is where I am at.

As happy as I was with Lodge's start, I'm not holding him with a hammy injury and will just grab him after he successfully returns for a game or so.

I am turning him into JBrailey simply because I foolishly overlooked him.

All others get another stay of execution.

He has not always played edge though Koala he did mainly play lock in his games in Canterbury Cup.

I can see why you’re picking him and I think he keeps the role but if Arrow keeps killing it Murray may be moved to edge. That could still happen in games even with Arrow off the bench as we need Arrow and Murray  playing big minutes.

Su’a will be playing close to 80mins soon enough.

With Benji on the bench also and Knight back very soon I just think there is too much uncertainty re Koloa’s mins. Like one week he could get 45mins then the next week 65mins we just don’t know.

There was an article on Murray in the preseason where he basically stated he only wants to play 60 minutes so he can be more effective when he's on the field. Arrow isn't really an 80 minute player either. The only 80 minute player in the Souths forward pack is Su'a.

Could holding Lodge be a fair decision? I mean no cow is screaming out to be traded in and I have Alvaro as cover

Lodge when fit has the potential to make more cash than guys like Jensen, Leniu, Stefano, Alvaro right?

On paper Croker to Davey seems like a smart trade, but I just have a nagging doubt. Think I'll hold.

Burned myself too often forcing trades last year. One of my top takeaways was "Don't assume 3rd tier players have any job security: Randall, J Hopoate, Paix, Fui all burned me with this logic." Not saying Davey is third tier, but if Des is already making a 2RF change after one week and splitting minutes in the trials it's hardly clear-cut.

Surely a more clear-cut cow comes along in a week or two.

Worst case Riki or Lam can probably become Davey next week if he looks like a must.

Settled on Host to Davey and Lodge to Alvaro

Now to decide who to start

    Davey, Riki, Leniu, Alvaro

    Start two, loop two, thoughts?
