Isnt the sternum injury the one Bennett blamed the Sharks for ? For it to be still be hanging around and not taken care if properly.

Say hypothetically a team signs a player who misses the whole pre season through injury and then gets thrown around a bunch of positions by the coach, is it the players fault they don’t succeed straight away or the coach/teams?

Hypothetically you don't buy such a player in the first place but if the "talent" was there and you like it you aren't worried too much about the first few games. It sucks that its not working out straight away and its even worse if there aren't many/any promising signs. If they are paid big $s you pretty much have to throw them out and hope for the best to save the player and the team some face but if that doesn't work out you go to plan B.
Shut them down, get some rehab done, find the spot you actually want them in after a few weeks when an inevitable loss your team takes badly and you get around the new guy with some good press blaming lingering issues from the previous club and the subsequent lack of preparation time. By seasons end you hope to know whether you have someone special or if you need to make other plans.
Hypothetically you also repair the ground at your home stadium so you don't screw your own team over............
