Well sorry to say Rabs but we don't refer to penalties as free kicks, and the examples you have given are from a long time ago. We are talking about the here and now, and those plays aren't even legal.

    It's readily available on line.

I guarantee you it won't help your case.

He plays last next round, unfortunately. If he's on the bench, the price gap between him and low BE Munster or Nathan Brown could increase by 60-70k. Even if Aubs starts, with his high BE, the gap can go up by 50k.

I can go Aubbs to Munster in one trade at the moment adter this week's changes, leaving TTurbo and SMat in centres. Not happy about SMat either, but think the trade has to be made.

Weirdly, can understand him being on trade-in list for others as he'll be bargain Origin cover after a couple more price drops before playing 80 for Cordner Rnd 12 and 18.

If its going to save you a trade as well as cash, you may be better of doing Maubbs to Munster this week.

Your centres look good but  SMat not bye friendly and TTurbo may play origin.

What happens when they miss the kick and it doesn't go dead?
The only player to tackle the man with the ball is the kicker?
I'm with Rabs on this one.

SST looking the goods today. Might go Hess to SST so I can go Lamb to Munster but probably too sideways.

thought i'd put this out from the rule book Smile I was sure it is illegal to purposefully miss a penalty kick on goal

Pretending to kick: It shall be misconduct for a player to pretend to kick at goal at goal from a penalty kick and then deliberately kick it elsewhere. Such misconduct shall incur a penalty. Having informed the Referee of his intention to kick at goal from an awarded penalty kick the kicker shall not do otherwise.

Section 6. in Notes, number 11

Nothing to say you can't miss, not kick it dead and regain possession.

Are you going to tell me you can't take a kick for touch, put a bomb up, regather?

    You can in both instances.

I agree with ya on the kicking for touch/free kick, clearly says you can kick it any direction if you wish. Only penalty goal is different.

    2. A player may take a penalty kick by punting, drop kicking, or place kicking the ball from any point on or behind the mark and equidistant from the touch line. Other than when kicking for goal (see notes to Section 6, Law 11 - “Pretending to kick at goal”) the ball may be kicked in any direction, after which it is in play.

I find that site very confusing on my phone but you're right it does say that they just have to be behind the ball. I'll put my hand up on that one

Gallen but big question marks over Origin, otherwise he'd be my pick. Mannering most reliable as set and forget gun plus captaincy option when Smith out. Like Taupau and JTrbo as PODs but bad byes so after Round 15.

I think there's some confusion happening between a "shot for goal" penalty and any other penalty.

You can 100% do what you want from a penalty, including pretend to kick for touch and then not. But once you have said you're going to shoot for goal you can't then deliberately kick the ball in the opposite direction. If the shot hits the posts then it makes sense you can have your own players chasing the kick down to potentially regather, so having them in your own half doesn't really make sense (for a conversion, sure)

Also, would love to see this done, I reckon the refs would pull it back as they wouldnt know what the hell is happening

I find it very hard to believe that a player can tell the ref that he's going to kick for touch and then put up a midfield bomb..

There have been numerous example of it over the years. Ray Price used to turn his back on the kicker and prepare for the ball to bounce off the posts. Tries have been scored from it. I have played in games where I've put a bomb up with no time on the clock and we've scored from a 'free kick' when going for touch.

And no spectre, you don't need to tap it when kicking for touch and going for a bomb instead. All completely legal.
