    Rio 2016

Its olympics time, and I can hear your apathy from here.

Australia's campaign started poorly yesterday when the Matildas lost 2-0 to a 10 man Canada.

But they've still done better than their men's equivalents, who didn't even qualify.

Kiwi chicks also lost, 2-0 to USA.
    Kiwi fellas also didn't qualify.

Have they announced the Aussie flag bearer yet?

I hope they pull a "NRL Face of the game" and curses them so they get caught up in some scandal about being on a drunken ramapage ala Gower (my fav part is still when he held Pearce down and spewed on him).

Anna Meares is the flag bearer.

Maybe she could take a leaf out of Dawn Fraser's book and go on a flag stealing rampage

Could not have chosen a better person to be flag bearer for the opening ceremony. Not only is Anna Meares an amazing athlete she is also a damn nice person in real life. I do however giggle like a 5yo every time I hear Kitty Chiller's name.

What is this bullshit. I thought the opening ceremony started at 6am so I jumped up all bright eyed and bushy tailed to watch it. They cross over to someone at the stadium and the crowd looks like a Roosters home game.

The opening ceremony was excellent, well done Brazil, its like Carnival meets the Olympics, I like it. just a shame there were not more athletes in the parade.

After not caring for the entire leadup, the start of the games has come and now I'm getting into the spirit.

Mostly watching the team sports, bit of football, rugby and basketball with a smattering of other stuff thrown in.

Glad to see Australia has gotten off to a good start after a pretty poor campaign in London. And congrats to Vietnam who won their first ever gold medal yesterday. I'm hoping Fiji can do the same in the men's rugby - will probably even cheer for them over Australia if the 2 end up meeting.
