Warriors wrote:Hey guys with all this talk of which cheapies will be around come round 1 (CTW/FLB spots) I would rather talk about who will do well. locked in Gutherson to go well enough but who are the others.

T Phillips - I'm hoping he isn't named as would prefer to pick him up closer to origin time when cashing a cheapy out. Have a feeling they play Chase Stanley for first four weeks anyway. Thinking Brad Abbey won't make first grade this year.

Eden/Opacic - Will only have four weeks to impress playing against Eels, Warriors, Panthers and Cowboys which all have good backs and pretty damaging runners. May not even make any money then will disappear once Reed comes back and then also fall behind Maranta in pecking order.

Curtis Scott - Reckon he has got the goods and with Storms easier start might be the pick of the bunch. Especially if he nails down that wing spot. Competition is Hawkins, Blair, Tonumaipea, Kennar. Speaking of which if Munster is out one will have to be the centre until hes back. Also Slater is injury prone now with his shoulder.

Latrell Mitchell - who knows, might jag a wing spot and if Ferguson bombs could find his way back there. Will go well I reckon.

Jaeleen Feeney/ Chanel Mata'utia - Feeney could get the gig to start at Fullback possibly. If so would be in a lot of teams. With McManus not playing this year these two are next cab off the ranks.

For the Knights Sione Mata'utia is suspended round 1, so at least 1 cheapie will get a run first off.

Problem with a lot of these guys is that there is a high chance of them just sitting around making little to no money.

Mitchell seems like he'll be the better fantasy player if he gets a run, so if I run with any non starters come round 1 he might be the one.

He looks huge compared to last year, will be a gun in future.

Bullbender has let the team down though, going with that weight lifting avatar, especially after winning avatar of the year 2014.  I think we should banish him back to Sportal until he reverts his pic back.

Speedball Deluxe wrote:Do I recall correctly at some point last year someone said a trade was 'worth' about 100k.i.e if say you bring in Rochow at the start of the season, but don't intend on him being a keeper and he peaks 70k over his starting price then the trade used to trade him out is a trade not used well?
Or was that reasoning more referring to nprs, who don't make 100k they are worth trading out to free up the cash?

In the old days they used to day a trade was "worth" $50k. That was back with a lower salary cap.

I'm not sure how they came up with that figure, or what its meant to represent.

$100k buys you, in theory, about 11 points a week. So, if you want to take the $100k as gospel, then you would only make a trade if it increases your scoring potential by more than 10 points.

You also have to take into account the changing value of trades as the year goes on.

Make a trade before round 6 and there are 19 scoring weeks for your new guys to make value (taking into account 2 byes) - so if you get your theoretical $100k value that is 209 extra points for your team

Make the same trade in round 24 and there are only 3 weeks to get value so you get a measly 33 extra points.

Of course, that doesn't take into account that you get zero reward for having trades left at the end of the season.

Anyone aware of anyone doing any actual research on it? The Supercoach/Dream team model of X trades over a season isn't very popular overseas as far as I'm aware.

The fantasy premierleague model is closer, but not sure its close enough for any analysis to be especially useful.

Might be something to look at in the game theory thread.

Hey mate, are you still having issues with this?  If so, what phone and browser? There have been a couple of issues that seem to have only affected one or two users.  For example, DK was on iPad and said it logged him out ALL the time, but no-one else has reported that.

Well if Nathan Brown is true to his word, who plays in the 2RF instead of Tapine.

They might be able to grab a bench spot, but I can't see either of them starting.

Brown did say he expects them to play first grade at some point this year

I was thinking 200k upwards starting price, but yeah, moreso how much they can be expected to earn is probably more relevant.

picking the right mid range guys seems like its going to be critical.

there just arent many cheap 130-140k guys around this year. it may impact on the make up of your entire squad.
