That's actually a decent point. Depends if I can find enough cash generating options. Those Smith/Parker/Fensom types are just set and forget. Very tough to ignore.

There is also McGuire's issue with osteitis pubis, and how that may affects his performance, or whether he has had that operated on and fixed over the off season, I'm not sure. (not familiar with the condition).

@ SoylentGreen for a mid-ranger player I would say you would have to have an expected 5 point average increase to pick them. For me, there is better value out there than the 80 min Joel Thompson. For example, P Vaughan (avg 42 minutes last year), LAM, Cartwright if named to start, Whitehead if named to start, Trobjevic

Even before Lowe was the inspiration in bullbender's erection, Cooper was the decoy runner and I had him year after year knowing he could bust out big scores.  But he would either cop the decoy or play in the centres.

I was keen on Stockwell at the start of last season but didnt end up going with him. If he is named to start he'll definately be an option

Surgess hands down.  All things being equal will play more games; 40k less; and more reliable to take the field every week.

Don't think the concerns about him taking time to readjust to NRL are justified?

hes had a full pre-season and i reckon he will be primed to go. seems like someone who won't want to let anyone down. there is alot of expectation on him and i htink he will push himself to go hard.

SoylentGreen wrote:So out of interest, how much of a differential between priced average and expected average would you say makes a player worth considering? Particularly regarding the mid-high price players (obviously you would be hoping for much bigger differential for a true cash cow than for someone who is already one of your better scorers).

I see someone like Joel Thompson as making a small improvement on last year, around 3-4 points. Is that worth considering him, given that his minutes and job security are pretty predictable?

Around the same price, you've got someone like Cartwright who has far more potential for improvement, but who knows how the Panthers are going to organise their minutes?

Main reason I am telling people to avoid Cartwright is because unless he is getting 60 minutes he isn't worth it, and that is too much of a risk.

Generally I consider a player "Undervalued" if I think they can score 10 points more on average than last year. I don't like 3-4 points is worth it, especially if investing in a higher priced player that there are alternatives too.

Alternative Nikorima definitely in the halves with Aubbo solely a second rower and Matterson/Henderson brought onto the bench

I feel sorry for Aubusson. He would easily slot in to almost every back row in the league, but at the roosters he remains the utility/playing from the bench.

I planned on adding that + a bye planner to the first or second post of the next thread now that it seems everyone is back.

Just saw a WIN TV news report on the Dragons pre-season. It featured Dean Young taking the boys through some training drills. When Young was asked to name a player that he expected to have a big year, he said JDB. Expects him to play rep footy in the next year or 2 and mentioned he is now a big part of their forward pack. Does this hint towards an extended role for JDB and potentially big mins?

Also, Packer looked extremely trim in the footage. Must be training the house down.
