If Glenn is to be made captain, that puts a bit of a squeeze on the forward pack/bench, if/when everyone is fit.

Lodge, Turpin, Haas will be the front row.
Glenn(C) would have to start, Fifita, and TPJ are also musts.

So then you've got Flegler, Carrigan, Ofahengaue, and Gillett to fit into 3 bench positions, assuming we carry a utility again.

Honestly hard to see where Gillet fits if his form doesn't improve on what we saw in 2019.

Carrigan has earnt a permanent spot in the 17, and there's rumours he will be in the leadership group. Ofa is an origin forward now (in some ways, through lack of quality in qld, but still), and Flegler is just that perfect 35 minute hard running prop for the middle period of the game.

You can take the lad out of Cronulla but you can't take the Cronulla out of the lad.

Didn't do himself any favours with the lifeline he was handed, clubs barely wanted a bar of him with the reputation he had before, then he added a DUI and a doping ban on top of it, think that's probably his footy career done.

Segeyaro had a contract on the table for months from us, but he was trying to get better offers elsewhere. We weren't willing to budge on price, and if he did get a better offer, he was always going to leave. He wanted to go back to Sydney.

Guess it doesn't matter anymore. Bad for him, certainly bad press for us, but its no real loss for our side.

I cant really see them punting McCullough, mainly because who else would want him at the moment besides the Tigers?

If the bloke can become a running threat even in the slightest (like jake friend) then he will be fine. Most of it comes back to having people backing him up when he runs though. Blokes like Smith, Friend, Cook all have their fullback or a half always backing them up. Hooker very low on their list of issues IMO

Exactly it gives Turps the bench role at the start of the year to fight his way into the starting jersey

Siebold was quoted as saying that Turpin is now the 9, and macca will be behind him to start the year.

I'm not sure how that will play out. I'd like to think that Macca will find another club (eg go to the UK).

I've been quiet here, but here's my take on the 2 issues:

Re captaincy talk about Lodge. I think he seems to be doing everything right to make up for his off-field since. Seems like as a 25 year old he is a different person than the 21 year old he was. Apparently those who have met him talks about how he seems genuinely remorseful, etc. and on NRL360 a few weeks ago James Graham talked about how on the field he was clearly their forward leader with the way he talked and played etc.

To me he seems like someone who the players look up to, and I think he should definitely be in line to be in the leadership group. I don't think he should be the captain for two reasons though. Firstly, he's normally only on the field for 50-55 minutes, so you need someone else to be on field captain for a fair chunk of the match anyway. And secondly, and most importantly, being captain carries a lot of off field commitments, and scrutiny, and even for the best of candidates, doing that for the Broncos in 2020 is going to be one of the most pressured roles you could imagine. And you know what the media is going to be like. He could donate his entire salary to the Starlight Foundation, find a cure for cancer , and win the 100m sprint final at the Olympics next year all around football, and Rothfield, Kent etc will still criticise him. I just don't know why you'd want to give him that extra pressure. Realistically he is only being talked about because there is not much leadership evident from anyone who is guaranteed a starting spot next year. That says more about the Broncos than it does about Matt Lodge.

Re Seggy, everyone loves watching him play, but the guy just can't stay at a club and out of trouble for more than a year or two. I loved the signing of him, even with his history, and wanted next season to have him as 14 with Turpin at 9, but I seriously question whether he is worth the trouble even if for example he gets off the drug charge on some sort of technicality. Someone who gets in trouble at every club usually takes some team mates with them, and I don't think the Broncos can afford that culture right now.

Plus, his game is built around zip from dummy half. He turns 30 in 2020, so he might not be far off losing that. Even this year, he was a big improvement on McCullough when he came on, but he was nothing like when he was at the Cowboys.

He was at the cows 7 years ago mate.. I get what you are saying but his best years were in penrith when he became a starting 9

But yep - cant keep his nose out of trouble. No one will pick him up even if he is not banned imo unless there is a crucial injury mid season

Yep. Cronulla had him and didn't even try that hard to keep him on minimum salary. Didn't he leave midseason from the UK because he was "homesick". I wouldn't be surprised if that's code for "He got caught doing something wrong but it somehow hasn't been leaked to the media". Agree that I'd be very surprised if anyone picks him up even if he isn't banned (which he will be).

He has done a bit of the ol Mullen. Injured so much throughout his career that he went the roid road (different to the roid road you experience Surmbro, there are creams to fix that).

Bronky Wonks have signed Shaun Lunt. English hooker, peaked approx 8 years ago. Assume hes a seggy replacement and not an FAC swap.

Lodge has shown great leadship and maturity in recognising he isn't fit to be Broncos captain..............
