Messing around with these options. Not really as clear cut as this but trying to isolate with/without Smith...

Smith + having to play Hiku or another basement priced WFB (on field) and Garvey/Havili (interchange)
    or
Cook + Dufty + Evans (Hiku and Garvey/Havili as emergencies)

I have Fifita/Tedesco/Brown locked in so not having Smith doesnt cost me a clear captain choice. It worries me not having Smith though.... all of my previous attempts at a team have not had Smith in them

The assigned Emergency will be the highest-numbered scoring player from the Reserves Bench who receives a score for the round and matches the position of the non-playing Starting 13 player. If this auto-emergency player is listed within the Interchange Players they will be replaced as an Interchange Player by the highest-ranked eligible Emergency not currently in the Scoring 17. This process of automatic emergency substitution will continue as described until there are no more eligible emergency replacement players. If no player from the Reserves is eligible to substitute for a non-playing member of the Scoring 17 no emergency substitution will be made. If the process of applying automatic emergencies results in fewer than 17 players scoring points a team’s total score for that round will be the aggregate total of only those players who have scored points"

TL:DR: If your starting CTR or WFB pulls out and you don't have a CTR/WFB in 18-21 you won't get an auto emergency. If someone in 14-17 pulls out it doesn't matter what position your AE is.

    Thanks mate. I was thinking as an example;
A starting front rower pulls out, you have a front rower in your 14-17 who you replace him with. Then you can replace him with anybody in your 18-21 and make them a reserve.
Problem is, how many coaches will be in this position and the players they want to move around, have already played and will be locked out, so they're stuffed anyway.

I think Pacey's trying to say everyone is puting to much emphasis on interchange players to provide a AE. If that what he is saying then I tend to agree.

My priority is to have the best cash cows to make money, not the best DPP in case I need an AE. I'll just have to ride me luck. If I find a great cash cow who is also a DPP then thats a bonus

Won't it be better to reserve these spots to the best cash cows that will make the most money. After a few rounds you can start planning to cover all these positions with suitable DPP's.

AEs will come from positions 14-21.

If for example one of your starting halves doesn't play and you have Connor Watson in position 15 - Watson will move into your starting team, and whoever is in position 18 will become a reserve

Storm have named what would be very close to, if not exactly, what will be their rnd 1 side for the WCC.

Hoffman starting in back row. Stimson in the 18.

Yea mate, your right. I have been spending way too much time on having some AE cover when probably 90% of the time, players will be locked out and can't be moved around anyway.

Emergency Rules - They are not 100% consistent with their use of the word 'emergency' here, but here is my attempt to make it clearer, by bolding some terms with some positonal numbers added.

It is clear that a starting 13 player can be replaced by anyone in 14-21, and not just 18-21.

    Reserves - 14-21
    Interchange 14-17

These are players whose priority-order is numbered 5 to 8 on your Reserves Bench.
A player from your Starting 17 who doesn't take the field will be replaced by a player from your Reserves Bench (14-21) based on the rules for applying auto-emergencies.
If a member of your starting 17 (13 on field and 4 interchange players) do not play in any given round an Emergency will be automatically assigned.
This Emergency’s score will be automatically added to the total points scored by a team in any given round.
The assigned Emergency will be the highest-numbered scoring player from the Reserves Bench (14-21) who receives a score for the round and matches the position of the non-playing Starting 13 player.
If this auto-emergency player is listed within the Interchange Players (14-17) they will be replaced as an Interchange Player by the highest-ranked eligible Emergency not currently in the Scoring 17. This process of automatic emergency substitution will continue as described until there are no more eligible emergency replacement players.
If no player from the Reserves (14-21) is eligible to substitute for a non-playing member of the Scoring 17 no emergency substitution will be made.
If the process of applying automatic emergencies results in fewer than 17 players scoring points a team’s total score for that round will be the aggregate total of only those players who have scored points.

Elliot on the bench in a weakened forward pack. A sign of things to come or just trying things out in the trial?

Doesn't matter if Newcastle have played or not. The new rankled reserves mean that Watson will automatically take the starting spot if he is the highest ranked half on your reserves bench (14-21).
And Watson't spot on the bench will be filled by whoever is in position 18.

Isn't McKendry making noise about being back firing from injury?

McKendry is a prop though, surely he isn't in contention for an edge backrow spot?

James Fisher Harris might play there, but I've read in a few places that he is considered part of the prop rotation now.

It seems a certaintly that Cam Smith is going to get some bench time this year, no? They are not going to want to let him retire without someone already in the system.

Also I am interested in the interest in NAS. I just cannot see him doing better than the last two years in minutes or scoring (which is already at a high rate)
