On past experience Tigers will probably still be paying some of Ivan Cleary's wage for the next two seasons if he ends up at the Panthers. Probably some of Nathan's as well somehow.

I've always liked Hook, and wished he got the job over Taylor back then.
After last nights interview, and the fact Ivan hasn't cleared anything up, I'd love to see Pascoe release Cleary right now and Pamfus pay for Hook to coach us. Last nights interview was tremendous.

i'm not sure how it works with penrith football dept cap but it should be counted
That would mean
griffin pay out
Cleary wage
Cleary compo
defs gonna be paying that extra 37% on a truck load
from where i sit, the tigers have all the cards when it comes to compensation negotiations. i think they'll take penny to the cleaners cash wise atleast
as for derailing the tigers season, maybe their form drops off, maybe it doesn't, but they had already played themself out of the finals
Is any compensation really going to offset the loss of Cleary and the damage it does to the clubs brand? I think they have to either keep him or make him sit out (like Tallis had too)
The football cap tax doesnt start until the 2020 season, so any payout and compo will go against 2019 and mean nothing for the Panthers(yes they will break the 2019 cap but its only a soft cap and means nothing). Its part of the reason they sacked him now not next year.
I like Gould coming out and using his podcast to say he saved Griffens job the board and excs wanted him gone earlier while in the paper it has Greg Alexander saying Gould wanted him gone months ago but was told to make it work by the board and excs. Gould also says any talk to Cleary was about 2020 not next season and it wasnt him who was making the offer. What a load of shlt. The NRL should step in and stop the Panthers

I think Ivan will stay where he is.
I also think it's a bit tough the tigers having a go at the Panthers. I mean when was the last time the Tigers honored a coaches full contract.

And this is why the NRL is going backwards, it's run like a local chook raffle and the leaders of the game have said zero.
No such thing as a contract anymore, why even bother having them for players or coaches

Clubs cut players all the time mid contract, players want to leave mid contract, they fire coaches mid contract. Why is this such a stinker? This literally happens every season.

It's a different situation when the club punts a coach though. The contract guarantees the coach a bunch of money and guarantees the club a coach, when the coach gets sacked they still get their cash.code delta wrote:I think Ivan will stay where he is.

It's looking more like he's going to sign for 2021 which is a very smart move from him and Penrith as it's hugely impractical for the Tigers so we'll end up letting him go.

“I have been very disappointed with the amount of misinformation surrounding myself and my family this week. I intend to make this statement to clarify my position and following this statement I will not be taking any questions on the matter.
When I was approached by the Panthers, initially I had no idea that it was about coaching at the club.
I was told at that meeting that the club were looking at the future of the Head Coach position. I advised the Panthers of my ongoing contract statues with the Wests Tigers.
I subsequently advised the Chair and CEO of the Wests Tigers of the discussions I had with the Panthers.
I was as surprised as anyone on the announcement of the dismissal of Anthony Griffin.
I have not received any offer from the Panthers, nor have I asked the Wests Tigers for a release. I am enjoying my contribution to the growth of this club. Everyone associated with this club should be proud of the direction it is heading in.
I am privileged to be a part of this journey and respect the contract I have with Wests Tigers. I respect all of the people, and supporters involved with this club, and I intend to honour this contract.
It is common knowledge that my son Nathan and I have acknowledged our desire to work together at some time. That remains the case.
Today I am absolutely focused on our match with Canberra and am now happy to take any questions on Sunday’s game.”

Seconded, unfortunately.
Hopefully the Tigers can do something over the net few months, but the tell will be what Nathan does in November, if we here anything at all around then. But yep, the way Ivan phrased things suggests he won't be re signing with us.
Not sure if just me, but he was also kind of middle of the road with his comments about the Tigers, nothing negative but at the same time he wasn't exactly saying he loved the Club and wanted to be here for ever if he could.

With the game, not disappointed at all in the second half. Our bogey team away and everything shifted towards the Raiders in the 2nd half as it generally does in Rugby League.

yeah agreed mate, he was very neutral with it.
Personally I would love to see him stay with the tigers long term and bring nathan with him.
Always had a soft spot for the tigers and they are a highly entertaining side when playing well.

Cleary has a knack for building a club up, which is why I was happy we got him. But his long term stats aren't good, he's never had a winning record at any club he's coached. Next year he should get us to the 8. Then tradition would dictate a downward slide. So if he leaves after 2019 that might not be such a bad thing.

Just noticed that we could potentially steal 8th this week with a win over Dragons and a Broncos loss to Souths.
At least cheering on Rabbits will be easier when it's vs. Broncos.
I already tipped Dragons though as I'm used to have my dreams crushed as a Tigers fan.
Hope the dumbass that wrote that article on nrl.com a few weeks ago titled 'Why the top 8 has already been set earlier than ever' or some shit feels like an idiot now.

Enjoy Cashman, I can't bring myself to watch live games, I always leave disappointed.
as for yesterday, well done Tigers, lets hope the journos will leave them in peace to chase the 8.
