Bugger, sad to see Tohu go. Another very much in the Simon Mannering mould - an absolute workhorse who deserved much more support than he got at the time.

We've probably run him into an early retirement realistically, for all those years he had to carry our forward pack almost solo.

What a career though, not too much more he could have asked for. Premiership winner, World Club Challenge winner, former 2nd row of the year, 230+ NRL games, played 16 times for his country (too few, sadly), captained his club, massively respected by most in the game (it seems). Not too much more you could hope to achieve in the NRL.

The fantasy implications are fascinating. It's probably too late to sign a big name replacement - I've already seen various suggestions on the Warriors forum of targeting Sexton, Hazleton, Neame, Whyte, Kini, E Butcher. Neame would be awesome, but it seems a long shot. Hughes is obviously the gold standard, but I don't see it. Presumably, Tohu hasn't just sprung this on management, though, so maybe they have something up their sleeve?

If it's just a matter of finding a new lock from what's already in the squad, it could conceivably be any of Walker, Clark, Barnett, Ford, JFH - some on the Warriors forum want it to be Ale but that seems unlikely. Any of Walker, Clark, Ford would present clear value. Doubt you buy JFH to play him at lock, but stranger things have happened.

Walker was playing there a lot last year, so is presumably the favourite. Clarke averages 48 in the role and shouldn't be especially expensive, so is probably the best option from a fantasy POV (unless it's Ale, but then every serious team would have a base price starting lock).

I reckon we broke Tohu in 2020-21.

2020 he plays every game, averages 75 minutes, 42 tackles, 170 metres, obviously all away from home + all the other disruptions.

Then 2021 he plays the first 15 rounds, averages 77.5 mins, 45 tackles, 120 metres, still all away from home. Then he gets concussed in R16 and injured again in R18 12 minutes in. That's a bloody tough two seasons, and all for us to finish 10th and 12th.

Not sure he was ever quite the same player after that. Takles and minutes both drop away (relatively speaking) following that, with injuries becoming more frequent.

Cheese is still on the outer at the Roosters...he's a Kiwi...best position is 13...Tohu retiring frees up decent salary cap space...

I'm hearing pretty strong reports*, the rumour seems to be gaining traction.

Is it that time already? Comes around quicker every year.

    From that article:

"This pre-season has been a lot harder,” Seyfarth said.

“We’ve done a lot more running because last year there were times at the back end of games where we were letting the game slip away from us."

From an article back in 2013:

"This pre-season has been a lot harder (than last year)," the New Zealand international said.

"This is the hardest pre-season I've done since being here. They're asking a lot of us but it's not as though we can't do it.

    Outstanding. The more things change.

Nathan Hindmarsh, 2011: "Q: Was this really the hardest preseason you’d ever done?

NH: Yeah, the hardest I can remember for a long time, definitely."

Reuben Baillie, 2014: The 21-year-old centre said he was under no illusions on how tough it will be when he hits the training paddock under Craig Bellamy.

"It will be the hardest preseason of my life," Baillie said.

Ben Ridge, 2015: “I did my pec in the first 15 minutes after probably the hardest preseason I’ve ever had so I was pretty gutted."

Addo-Carr, 2017: “It’s the hardest pre-season I’ve done. You get a lot of confidence out of the pre-season you do down here. That shows in my performance.”

Benji, 2019: Benji reflects on 'hardest preseason.' Wests Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall has hailed Michael Maguire's impact at the club, despite the gruelling preseason training.

Cam Munster, 2019: Melbourne is primed to start strongly next week despite losing both preseason trial games after the “hardest preseason” of Munster's career.

DWZ, 2021: "This has probably been the hardest preseason I’ve ever done and in saying that the hard ones I’ve had I’ve had a good year and the team has done really well so we’re looking forward to this year,” he said.

Is it possible that every pre-season is the hardest preseason ever?

My guess is Clark/Walker probably share the role to start with. I'm not sure that's necessarily better tbf. But Ford at lock is so uninspiring for everything except fantasy.

    Headline - smashes club record

Article - matches his own record for the 1.2km Bronco lol

Admittedly his bronco time (4.12) is pretty insane for a footy player, these times obviously all unofficial and not all publicised, but seems as good as anyone has managed at the All Blacks for instance.

Although google AI says Max Plath has got a 4.11 time!

haha. i'm bored enough that i did 30 secs of googling (clicked first link which google "AI" is probably scrapping), which says tom gilbert's was 4:12. others mentioned were around 4:20 to 4:30

Once when I was lying on my front deck with what I thought was a broken humerus (but was actually a badly dislocated elbow) I was wondering if this was the most painful injury I'd ever had. I came to the conclusion that the current injury is always the most painful as we have an amazing capacity to forget how much something hurt once we are though it (otherwise why would women have more than one baby?)....the ambulance took a long time to get there.

    So it begins.

“We lost Jesse, through retirement … bringing in a guy like Daniel Saifiti has been awesome. He’s a little bit similar to how Jesse plays, obviously a little bit younger,” Katoa says.

“I think the best thing about him is he’s come here to not prove anything but to earn everyone’s trust. He’s earning that through his actions and he’s absolutely training the house down at the moment.

That's all I needed to hear, Saifiti should be at 100% ownership when the game opens.

    Happy New Year lads!

Who can believe the start of the season is only 7 weeks away!!

Anyway, came across this article about May. House are getting trained down left right and centre. Looks a pick even at 60 minutes which you'd think he's bound to get, at least.

Surely he's the highest-owned player come season kickoff? Top 3 at the very worst?

Averages 61 in games over 40 minutes. Even the very low end of 40-50 minutes he averages 55. 78.3 in 3 games over 60 minutes. However you slice the numbers they look good.

I'm expecting FailHub probably messes with his price but I doubt even that would be enough of a deterrent.
