    some more general thoughts

cant see a rationale for not starting with cleary and hynes, I think they are just too dominant as fantasy guns, and I expect them to continue to score very well.

always a fan of having a good scoring hooker, can see no reason why robson wont continue the form he showed last year, cows will be excellent and Grant is just too expensive when you factor in my desire to have cleary and hynes

the choice was between carrigan and cotter and I just slightly prefer watching carrigan, plus I didn't want to have all my eggs in the cowboys basket, this wasn't for any objective reason as both have good bye schedules, but just to have another player and team i like to cheer for

Tapine, ive be persuaded by the tapine hype tbh, the lack of middle depth at canberra means there will be some extra reliance on him and hes a great fantasy scorer

Hopgood, I am extremely excited about, showed form in trials, and when he gets mid dual hes a must have

wilton, his golden period last season when graham was out combined with the sharks great attack makes me want to start with hium, from what I gather graham will be seeing less minutes to interrupt him, and though pricey, if he gets the role I want him to, I think he is underpriced

Talau and alamoti, both feature in teams that are on the up, bulldogs and wests will improve and if these two can average similar to what penisini did last year I will be happy. One reaspon I happy to go super light here is that I dont see any outstanding centre options. there's no cheeky dual positions, or underpriced guns or subguns, again my choice in halves means I have to cut costs somewhere and this be it. Im not worried about antipodding HTF, though slightly worried about Thompson, so be it

Walsh, I'm just on his hype train - think he has the ability to shine in what i think will be a good broncos side, I think he has the quality to really explode in attacking stats, and I like watching him play, Its a punt and i dont expect people to follow me

miller - hoping newcastle improve, but hes passed my eye test, has a fantasy friendly playing style, do think that WFB like centre doesnt present too much value and he is one of them

Warbrick - showed some nice glimpses in trial, a cheap facilitator for other positions

Brandon smith - dual is handy, presents value, huge ownership means I'm obligated to get him
Boyd - a cheap starting 7, cant look past that (dual helps)
Ford - has been on fire in trials, hope he keeps it up, Dual is good too
TMM - quietly optimistic for the warrios this year, his dual is useful, hope he and they kill it

doorey - base price potentially starting edge for a top team - no brainer (lane injury helps any question marks)
BMM - been very impressive in trials, not someone I've really liked too much before but willing to try him
AKP - great in trials, titans always attack well, think he may end up securing that spot, we shall see
HSS - I need centre cover

Looks a great team mate, very well balanced. Personally I'm not that sold on Robson, last year he scored plenty of tries but I can recall numerous games where his score wasn't looking very good but then he barged over for a try to save the score (not saying that can't happen again this season, but I doubt he will score that many again) and at that pricetag I'd need to be fully certain he is capable of a very high average.

In saying that, by getting rid of him it may allow you to get a Teddy at the back there then have around 550k odd for a bench player by moving cheese to your starting hooker. Just my thoughts mate, but nice team!

I see your point, if i think that smith and boyd can adequately cover hooker, then I can upgrade a weak point by losing robson, or I could even downgrade robson to hodgson and use that money elsewhere

the team isnt set yet, and I will think about that and do a further deep dive into robson. for example if granville gets named on the bench for NQ it dramatically effects robson

Damn the Hynes cleary is a big one. I've tried to get it in numerous times but just ruins my blend. Keen on Walsh, but thinking heavy mid's rather than heavy halves, and waiting for one of the big 2 to drop

Tbf I do expect both to drop in price, but I’m keeping them both all year so I’m going all in on them

    controversial selections,

Hodgson i have lowkey liked from the off, good price, previous gun scorer, impressed me in the 2nd trial and the make up of parra bench leads me to believe he'll play big minutes

Ford, over garner/katoa, tbh this is one that might change, because if i start with garner or katoa and then don't like what i see its easy to go down to ford, my biggest query around ford is minutes as the looming curran exists

Hunt, honestly this is due to price and draw, i think newcastle will score points, leftwingers bag tries, he is absurdly cheap and has dual position, i slightly prefer him just for this week over alamoti as i think manly attack might make alamoti struggle, if hunt is bad/gets dropped for marhzhew then hes easy to replace

Levi, i fail to see how he won't make money being a starting hooker, i also think hes a way better player than people give him credit for, this is a punt and could go wrong, do not follow, i also low key like him for some reason

Trindall over katoa, sharks better team, trindall more dominant, more kick metres, more historic scoring prowess, again if katoa shows me something easy to swap them, also roosters might run riot against katoa, who's defence for tonga looked suspect

walsh (inj) i expect him to only miss one week, so happy to park him

perham, i did jump off him after trials, but ciraldo has a faith in him that remains steadfast, so just for the fact that he is a starting NRL fullback at that price i will gamble on him, again a punt, I will also replace him easily if i dont like what I see with walsh next week

hastings he showed nothing in the trials but i do believe the team is set up for him in a way which will lead to him being ball dominant, kick metres, touches etc, think this bodes well for his fantasy score, no niggling injuries reported, lets go

    Week 1 team review

Total score 775, overall rank 29698

Hodgson 45, 80 mins from Josh which was great, thought he actually played pretty well, looked fit, and in control, probably fortunate not to get pinged for a few dodgy passes, got a nice try assist, pass mark for him

Carruigan 65 50 tackles, hell of an effort, if this is what I see performance wise from carrigan every week I'll be happy, what a workhorse, hope to see some offloads in the future, happy with this pick up

Tapine 45  the only one of the big 3 mids that didnt score as well as I hoped, i bottled going for both broncos big minute mids as I wanted to spread around the players and tapine obviously doesnt play origin, not his day to post a big score, there will be better scores ahead, no need to panic, trifiling conditions in NQ, alos he had a lot of help from saulo, mariota and guler who all player well surprsining me,

murray 66 spent big bucks on him to really anchor my side, i think it was one of the podcasts that really talked him up that convinced me, hes such a good player and watching this weekend reminded me how much I hated watching him put scores on at the back end of last year, happy I have him locked in for some time

hopgood 83 wow, what can you say, everyone thought he'd go well and boy did he, feels really nice to have 3 mids and an edge im super comfortable with, guy is all action, tackles, workrate, offloads, parra have got a steal in recruiting him, more of the same please

garner 26 i am annoyed at myself for garner, i had planned to play Ford or Blore (who i eventually binned) as the second edge but right before deadline i jettisoned bateman and had extra money and went against my instinct and throw garner in, hoping he would be an 80 minute kikau light, his play was bad and his minutes wern't there, he will be leaving this week most likely, many more value edges out there imo

Hastings 46 newcatsle were very clunky, and hastings kept getting bashed/staying down, i'm not sure whether im pleased or not, he did do some things I really liked but the nagging feeling that i could have just paiod the extra for douehi is with me, i will wait and see what happens next week though and if he can improve with some more attacking stats he will get an acceptable average

cleary (c) 122 he did what he does, get absurd amount of phantom points hahaha, but i think he tried hard, got hands on the ball plenty, just looked a little out of sorts without a good supporting cast, no panic, panthers will improve and he will remain in my team

alamoti 17 didnt get to see much of this game as it was early in uk time, what i will say is plenty of more established centres have done this to me in my brief history of fantasy and did so to other teams this weekend, jurys out, but too cheap to worry about right now

Staggs 26 if you followed my team tracker last year you know i like a gamble, well i bet on staggs getting his breakeven of 37, the HIA and the cramps saw me screwed on that, thought he played great in defence for broncos, so many great defensive stops, but not much ball to run with, hope he doesnt lose too much money and he will be walsh next week unless i have an injury im not yet aware of thats more pressing

Perham 26 didnt see the game, not enthused by the score, though the bulldogs did get smashed so maybe this isnt terrible, either way if ciraldo gives him more game time, i'll give him another chance to rule himself out or in,

miller 43 pretty good score but loved what i saw from miller, i like fantasy players that play in his style, work rate, extra runs, and tb that are really soft but easily accrued, when the attack for newcastle imporves and he adds some attacking points he'll do well, i was high on him before and this only made me happier

warbrick 29 he didnt see much ball, he didnt get attacking points and he got 29, cant complain for 230k

    interchange

boyd 37 he didnt impress me in his performance at all, but he is the half back so he gets a good amount of points, his dual is useful, will hold for now

brandon smith 34 hated how much playing time turpin got, that said rooster were loosing middles for fun, wanted him to play as that jet heeled attacking 9 we know he can be, weird result and game for the roosters, no panic will monitor him

trindall 33 for a 250k player im not mad at this score, the first half he played like hynes, the second half he played like moylan, if we see more of the former and less of the latter he'll do ok, sharks wont be as bad as they were in that second stanza again and I hope to see an uptick in fantasy points for trindall

UToikamanu 32 this ones on me, wests have too many middles to make him value, i enjoyed watching him, and thought he looked fit and fast, but thats a dense middle selection they have and klem, twal and ofa enjoy big minutes and touches, i'll be getting rid of him when I can, but no rush

    emergency

ford 44 played great, few too many missed tackles, nbut overall happy with this cheap dual player, 80 mins, he will prove value and useful

doorey 31 at his price I have no complaints, never considered carty so not disappointed in the choice, hope he gets named again for parra to give me the option to play him, on eye test he does nothing for me, in fantasy he presents value

HSS 23 tough assignment for the lad, hopefully he goes out to wing in rapanas absence and I'll hope for better scores, wasnt expecting much, not thrilled, not disappointed

Preston 18 encouraged he got minutes, less encouraged with the score, didnt see the game so cant analyze further, so will leave it there,

will wait til monday am time to see price changes and what not to suggest trades, buut there will be some

overall though I messed up putting in garner, and that skewed my week,

i was super impressed with HTF and the dolphins in general, if he plays like that I'd be happy to have him as my CTR, so I think i might put him in as thats gonna be problem position all year, will probably do it asap so I get the price rises of the next few rounds

Still like garner out and cover edge by Ford or doorey (Hopgood second edge)

Walsh I want it just depends who I get rid of to fit him in

I would say great start but it could be better if we are being honest (I scored 775 too)
But the bones of a team are there and the pendulum will swing back
Hit most of the good cheapies and its a balanced team, look forward to your moves in the coming weeks

Trades done garner and smith out

    Reece walsh and Wilton in

Reason: garner had to go, he infuriated me watching and I’m annoyed I put him in, I do think in theory he could become an 80 min edge for panthers but I won’t stick around to find out

Smith is a bit of gamble to take out, I’m not massively down on him, I just want to spend his cash elsewhere, with the middles injuries roosters have I see him spending a good bit of time there and I wanted him to have a hooker role, I think he’s somewhat ineffective in middle

Walsh I’ve had high on my wish list all season, was just waiting for him to be named, this week might not be his best game but I’m picking and sticking with him so the sooner we get the show on the road the better

Wilton is an 80 min player guaranteed with Graham’s suspension, he is a bit of try scorer from that position and I think he will have a high average, 45 last week with 16 demerits, if he cleans that up and can sneak into a high 40s or low 50s average we are cooking on gas

These changes allow Ford to come onto bench instead of stuck in interchange

And means I keep staggs, who while disappointing last week is at least a ctr mid gun that allows me to choose between Alamoti and HSS on a week by week basis for his ctr partner

I’m fully aware both trades are somewhat luxury trades, but they made me feel happier and that’s the main thing (I do also think they are both players I will be happy holding long term)
