So Surgess has signed effective immediately according to BBC. I heard on the radio this morning that transfer fees count towards the cap? Surely that can't be right.

If I'm reading this correctly, Souths can pay him as much as they want and he'll only be on their books for 500k? fucking shameless NRL-assisted cap rorting, how can such a great game be overseen by such hypocritical knee-jerking grade-a morons?! He can't do an Israel Folau, he already tried that and failed, contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on these days and their are plenty of clubs looking for talent, shed the full amount of players required to get him legitimately under the cap & if having to pay him & Inglis leaves their team short on depth, then welcome to the mechanics of a salary cap you stupid motherfuckers.

This is bullshit. If he wants to go to the bunnies he should get paid what they can to afford him. If they can only afford to pay him 500k or he pushes their salary cap over then so be it. He either takes that deal and then gets third parties on top like most other stars, or he goes to another club and gets closer to the 1mil per season mark. He left the club and his contract was finished. End of story. He comes back and its a new contract, simple enough.

Absolute shambles this is. The "market value" rule has been enforced on a select few players while ignored for others. If Burgess signs for 1mil plus 3rd party it all should be in the cap.

He should not be allowed to sign for less then 700k as that would at least be his market value (premier forward in the game). South would need to release 3 top players this year to cover 860k (700k Burgess + 2 min 80K players to fill up top 25)

Now if Hayne came back would Parra be allowed to sign him for any amount and only include the 500k his last contract was? I doubt it
