The one thing it does it makes it more likely that Morgan becomes halfback with Hunt being on the bench, as I think when he comes on that's a better combination than the other way around. Personally I'd still have Hunt at 7 though.

If Hunt and Munster were the #1 choice prior to the retirement announcement, then it would be foolish to go away from that because Hunt is a better back-up hooker.

Macca will come straight in and we might as well start the inevitable FAC process by anointing him as the Queensland captain.

Maybe Melbourne, the QRL & NRL already knew about it but they wanted pre-sale tickets for origin 1 in Melbourne to reach a certain level before he retired.

Also perhaps now he's retired pre-sales for the Sydney Origin might increase.

If NSW flog QLD in game 1, do they do an SOS for smith, thurston, cronk?

Let's just worry about picking a team that can beat them.

QLD are a champion team - I'll never forget Fattys Maroons so I'll never write them off completely.

thats what they would have been doing anyway...

so who is the Aus hooker now?
    FAC? Ben hunt?

If we concede that Munster is the aus 6, is Maloney the Aus 7?

    so many changes.. wow.

The best spine and interchange Qld can put on the park, at least the one that scares me most and I think would continue to easily account for NSW is:

    1. Slater
    6. Munster
    7. Morgan
    9. Hunt
    14. Ponga

    That wins Origin easy.

I think game one the go with:
    Slater
    Munster
    Hunt
    McCullough
    Morgan

And possibly revert to the top combo if they lose.

I love that QLD are losing more than 100 games of SOO experience and 3 of the greatest origin players to ever lace up a boot, yet NSW still need to remind us in every post that they are the underdogs.

Its a really cute "little brother" thing you guys have going on. Adorable.

In reality: "Bookmaker TAB immediately dropped its price for a NSW series win from $1.70 to $1.53 in the wake of the announcement."

    Still expecting a 3-0 Maroon-wash.

The bookies are dullards then, gifting money for a Qld win.

A cursory glance at the potential spines easily indicates QLD are raging favs, and if anyone thinks otherwise, then that totally lack any football IQ, regardless of the games, anship of trying to be the "underdogs"

Sportsbet didnt get a net worth of $300m by offering $2.80 to raging favourites.

The quality if their spine has got QLD home the last few years, we shouldn't be $1.50 but were definitely favs. If you think the books are dullards then put your money were your mouth is and post your betslip. Trying to claim fake underdog status makes you sound like a QLD fan.

For stability and the future, the captain goes to Morgan.
The other options could be their last year in origin or aren't guaranteed a spot.

i'd personally take munster/hunt over maloney/cleary but its certainly close which it hasn't been for over a decade and thats exciting

gonna be an interesting series, both teams are gonna feel alot different to previous years

They would still have more HEAPS games experience even with losing smith cronk and thurston.
Slater alone would have player prob more games than the NSW side put together
    Boyd
    Inglis
    Scott

Then you put an 2 current aus players in the halves, the future aus captain back in at centre

    NSW fucking favs... LOL
NSW will have a rookie - halfback, hooker, at least 2 props, possibly 6, and possibly both wingers and both centres.
    Lol

also, dont bookies make more money when there is an upset?

No of course not. Like having QLD @ $4.70 after game 1 last year.

Maybe because they got absolutely smashed at home, were down 0-1 in a best of 3 series and were up against the second game being played in Sydney?

Bookies know what they are doing. They arent offering $2.80 for QLD because they think Slater is going to win the series by himself.

Agree their spine has continually made them favs, and their spine is still superior, not as good or solid it was it might be argued, but it I still still better and in Origin, that is generally the difference, hence they should be slight favourites.
