Shit, thats 15 out of the 19 man squad... leaves us with 4 healthy players. We should drop a 16th and make it 3 players so next Wednesday is a fair game.

Napa is the only one out of that list who may have been picked last year. The rest, no.

And holmes, well they picked him in the Aus team anyway after Mal said the suspension would carry on to the Aus team.. sooo.. good stuff

Fact is, all of those guys - bar possibly napa - have only come into contention in rep teams last and this year because of injury.

That's my point. Perhaps those guys took the kick up the arse as a chance to reflect on themselves, and accordingly, are better players now as a result.

As for the Holmes selection by Meninga, you miss the point. The suspension was that they wouldn't be selected in the 2016 origin series. As a result non of those were considered for the mid season test before the origin test. After their suspension was served at the end of Game 3, they were again eligible for selection.

It was supposed to be a 12 month suspension from rep. Not a ban from origin that year.
Mal literally came out and said it would apply to the australian team then he conveniently forgot about it when naming the side at the end of the year.

Nope, it was a QRL-imposed origin ban.

Did Mal actually say that he was going to carry over the bans to the Kangaroos, or just that he agreed with the ban, because all i can find is an article he wrote on april 8th of last year, which says the following:

    MILFORD IS MISSED
THE Queensland Rugby League’s decision to ban 10 members of its Emerging Origin program for 12 months has not made my life as Australian coach any easier.

While I am all about picking the best players available for the Kangaroos, I am also a big believer in a player earning that right by serving their apprenticeship by playing for their state first.

So as I cast my eye ahead to the Four Nations at the end of the year, when the Kangaroos will pick a squad of 24, I look at a guy like Anthony Milford and wonder about the damage that one night out has done.

Anthony is in terrific form and if he keeps playing the way he is would not look out of place in a green and gold jersey. But he won’t be picked for Queensland this year, a ban that I agree with and it will count against him.

I would have loved to have seen him handle Origin before handing him a Test jersey, but for this year at least, we won’t get that chance.

that quote says that mal was choosing to ban them from the Aus team as well. Then he went back on it and picked holmes.

No no no, Mal was saying that he would have liked to see Milford (and others) play for their state before he gave them a possible Aus jersey but it wasn't possible now, because They were no chance of playing for their state, so if he wanted to choose them he'd obviously be picking them without state jerseys.

Nowhere does that quote indicate he was banning them from Aus selection.

Sure, I must have a dodgy memory of the events but still -

    JTrbo.
    S Boyd.
    Mclean.
    Holmes.
    Mansour?
    Moylan?

    All selected before playing SOO.
Prob a few more too under meninga's watch that I cant remember.

What does that have to do with Mal supposedly banning the origin players? That only confirms what Mal said in the quoted piece, that he will overlook a player not being selected for their state if he feels they truly deserve a spot in his team. As Ice said, he didn't say he flat out won't pick some-one who hasn't played origin, just that it can be a big tick in the box if they have performed well on that stage.

When you consider the alternative was to pick NSW players, you can understand why Mal did what he did.

The Broncos winger missed training on Sunday but is expected to join in the side's final session on Tuesday, according to Channel Seven's Chris Garry.

Last year the Queensland camp was hit with a stomach bug and Aidan Guerra, Matt Scott and Corey Oates were on light training duties due to illness, while Jacob Lillyman was placed in quarantine.

The funniest bit about the annual stomach bug that hits the QLD camp, is that the simpleton NSW players and coaches fall for it every time.

Corey Oates twice in 2 years. Just loves eating uncooked chicken and dodgy seafood - only in origin camp it seems.

    Now, now, Dip.

It's going to be true eventually.

Mind you, it's nice of said Blues supporters to come out and put their money where their mouth is.

    Again.

It's a bit like me and roulette. "Yey, I won", just doesn't cut it with the missus after I've blown 8 in a row chasing Red.....
