Cooper Cronk moving to Sydney next season

I'd follow Tara Rushton too.

So where's he go? I'll go with the Bulldogs. Hasler resigning yesterday was a surprise, maybe there was a reason behind it, as well as the talk about their halves not being offered contracts yet.

Bulldogs have signed Brooks, Cronk is coming to the Tigers on Tedesco's money when he goes to the Rorters.

Apparently Tara wants to start a family and the bloke needs to be around more. Needs to be applauded for taking one for the team.

Well let's look at the potential clubs he could go to in Sydney.

Dragons Just spent their Cronk money by going off early for Ben Hunt.
Bulldogs - My pick to where he will go, they need it and it makes sense.
Eels - Maybe. Norman in the 6 and Cronk to 7. Would need to gut their side a little but that Semi money is a portion of it.
Tigers - $900 for Brooks or $1.5 for Cronk? I know what I would do.
Panthers Cleary is the future, there's no need for Cronk when you have a young gun at a fraction of the price.
Rabbits They've got A-Rey and I would imagine would struggle to find the money, although maybe.
Manly DCE is tied up for millions.
Sharks There's no way that they could afford him and don't need him either.

Knights should sign Cronk for 2 years and have a plane and limo on standby whenever he wants to go and see the missus in Sydney.

If it came down to pure money, he'd probably choose the Dogs or Tigers. If he wanted to win a premiership he'd probably go Dogs or Eels. Making Dogs the easy front runners id say.

On a positive , at least having a "Big 1" of Cooper Cronk would be more correct than having a "Big 4" of Brooks, Moses, Teddy and Woods.

Well at some point throughout the day we are all full of shit. I took my morning ritual dump as per usual so I should be good until later this evening.

The Dogs were in for the "big 4" but had to let a lot of the team go, and really i dont think they wanted all 4 think most of that was media talk. Im sure theyll look at Cronk but really i think they would prefer Foran.

The Tigers make the most sense and id love to see him go there. If i was the Tigers id be looking at only keeping Tedesco and chasing Cronk for 2 years. Let Woods go, frontrowers arent worth 600k let alone the 800k he wants. If you could wrap up Cronk and Tedesco i'd off Brooks and Moses both a 3 year deal (450k, 550k,700k) and let their dodgy manager know only one gets the contract first to agree is in, if both leave its no big deal (not sure how many clubs will pay more then that) there are plenty of guys who would pair up well with Cronk and Tedesco on the cheap.

Lol at Brooks & Moses, no club is going to offer decent money to these bums now that there are some great options on the open market.

my personal opinion is he is more likely to retire then play on

if he does play on, apperantly the tigers have just re-signed brooks, i'm not sure they are in play

3 teams that would stick out to me

Sharks: townsend off contract, gal could be retiring. havn't replaced barba and ennis. cronk would extend their premiership window

Eels: obviously have the cap space, would work next to norman, takes them from a fringe top 8 team to a premiership contender imo

Dogs: i would love to have him, we have 3 spine members off contract, cronk is more valuable to any success then all 3 combined and honestly think mbye would thrive next to him, like the eels could take us from fringe top 8 team, to premiership contender

the other side of things is if cronk does retire, QLD suddenly lose both their halves in one year


while the bronco pair is there and norman has been playing well, listening to kevvie over the last few weeks, i think they'd be looking at

7 DCE (provided his current form reversal is permanent)


moving forward, which certainly isn't worse then the NSW halves but geez it'll be good to not have a massive gap in class moving forward

If that does happen (I think he'll still have a year or two, otherwise he would have just announced a retirement now), then you'd think Morgan will definitely be 5/8, but there seems to be a growing opinion that Ash Taylor will be the next QLD halfback. I tend to think his game is probably more suited to origin than DCE, although that might be harsh on DCE on the basis of his previous efforts in the 7 when he was playing injured and a bit down on form at the time.

The one thing that I hope (although don't expect) is that with Cronk sounding like he won't make an announcement for a couple of months, then hopefully heaps of signings are are delayed until later in the year. Clubs that are chasing Cronk might not be able to do many other signings early in case they need the money for him, and even clubs not chasing him might wait to see who is shed later on to fit him in. For example, the Dragons hypothetically might be willing to let Widdop and/or Dugan go if they sign Cronk, but don't want to lose either of them if they don't get Cronk. A team chasing a fullback might therefore wait until Cronk has signed somewhere, to see if either of these become an option then, where they may not be on the market now.

Hard to read into the alleged Brooks signing this morning. You'd think the Tigers wouldn't be interested in Brooks if they sign Cronk, so why sign him now. I have funny visions of the club sending a signed contract to Brooks on Monday (or at a time when they didn't know about the Cronk news) with an deadline to sign it or they take the offer of the table. I can just picture that as soon as the Cronk news was announced Brooks panicked and signed the contract and sending it direct to the NRL for stamping as quickly as he could before the Tigers had the chance to withdraw the offer to him.

Surely cronk plays for the Dogs or retires.
Cronk turns the dogs into premiership favs IMO - thats if he is actually as good without Smith/Slater
