Hayne has quit the 49ers to chase a spot in the Fiji 7's Olympic team.

Sounds fishy to me, id say might have been a push from the 49ers. Im guessing he will be playing for the Roosters in 2017

NFL does not Comply with WADA, so to switch to a WADA compliant (like rugby, including 7's) code, you need to wait 6 months.

be interesting how this develops with the IRB and WADA.

i'm sure Hayne had been told he was long odd to quit now, does he come back to NRL in 17' ? be interesting to see if he still willing to forgo $$ because the eels won't be in a position to offer him the coin other clubs (roosters) can

100% He wont be at the Eels. They have the money but would have to give up Norman and i dont think they would do that. The Roosters know they have missed SBW and have the biggest TPA's (Bagmen) going. I cant see him being anywhere else.

I do feel a little let down(not sure they are the right words, hard to explain) that he didnt have another crack at making the 49ers, thought Chip Kelly would have been good for his involvement.

you'd think Hayne would have agents that know about this rule ?

If he has been doing drug testing on the side, or if there are records of him being tested regularly, there shouldn't be an issue? You would think that they would have covered this before him making the official announcement tho.

Personally, I would love to see him playing union, he would bring the Wallabies back to being a force in union. He would make Super rugby look easy too. Would LOVE to see him playing 10 or 15 in union.

Also, this is the perfect opportunity for the NRL to use this "warchest" marquee player hing that exists but has never been used.

They should use it and get him to play for one of the shit teams in the league - eg Newie/Titans

He'll play at least a season in European Rugby. Otherwise its a lot of sitting around waiting for the next season to start, whatever Australian code he decides on.

    Or Japan?
Considering Beale just signed a fucking gigantic contract with the Wasps, there may be a spot for him in the UK.

Maybe he goes back to the NFL after the olympics and tries out for another team?

It'd be good to see him at the Broncos using some of the money left over from Hodges retirement. He could play left centre instead of Reed.

Seriously though, disappointed to see him give up NFL. Him playing for Fiji in union doesn't seem right either, but if that's what he wants then good on him.

I'd love to see him back in the NRL as he was great to watch. Even if it is with the Roosters. As much as people hate it, but I wonder if the Storm is a possibility. You'd think Cronk is getting close to retirement, and while I think he'll go another season, there have been whispers about Slater retiring after this latest injury. That's a fair chunk of salary cap available, and given the age of the big 3, I reckon the NRL would want a marquee player in Melbourne, and agree with it or not there would be no bigger name that Melbournites recognise than Jarryd Hayne. Certainly no bigger name aged under 30.

Unlikely he goes back to the NFL after the olympics. First round of roster cuts happen during the olympics and second (final) round a week after. Itd be a massive uphill battle to get into the NFL for this season if he doesnt show up until late August, just as they are cutting the first round of scrubs.

I wouldnt use the warchest on him, itll only help the top teams with limited salary cap pick him up. I doubt itll be about the money though as he has so many sponsors and exposure more TPAs wont be a problem.

What will be interesting is his "market value" Its only ever happened once in the game and that was to Folau and the Eels. Gasnier got away with it a couple years earlier and then at the same time Folau was knocked back for only being 250k first year when NRL valued him at 400k the supposed top rated player in the NRL at the time was only on 250k with the Broncos.

I'm guessing if he cant play 7's due to the WADA 6 month requirement, he probably can't play NRL, European Rugby or a range of other sports. Makes me think he's checked it out already.

Jarryd has said on numerous occasions that he wont play for anyone but the Eels.
Will be interesting to see what the NRL does if he digs his heels in and wont play for anyone else. Do they refuse to use this war chest and let him go to Union and have egg on their faces again?

Caught between a rock and a hard place if he does. No point in having a war chest if you dont use it, but they dont want to be held ransom either.

The apparent 'war chest' is a joke of an idea that only came about to appease the media driven myth that Union etc. was poaching all the NRL talent and weakening the comp as a result.

As we have continually seen over the years, as soon as a big name leaves, another superstar emerges to fill the void.

Use the money to market the sport and bring more money in (for everyone) that way.

Benji said that for the Tigers aswell and went to Rugby after the "warchest" remained closed. Flash forward and now he's got the RedV on his chest.

Should replace it with a big red "A". Shout out to 1800's literature.

Hayne and Thurston are about the only players I can think of where it is appropriate for something like the warchest to be used..

If they do use the warchest on him then they should say - only if you play for Team A, B or C.
