THE CRONULLA Sharks have sacked grand final superstar Ben Barba after he tested positive to cocaine four days after their premiership victory.
In a statement this morning, Sharks chief executive Lyall Gorman said Barba had been granted an immediate release from his contract to address “significant personal issues.”
“While this decision has not been easy for either party there is full agreement that it is one made in the best interests of Ben, his young family and our Club.”

I always think that. Surely there are better rehab programs in Australia/America/UK .. etc..
Thai rehab to me always just sounds like they are going on a holiday for a few weeks without their phone.

He may have only gone back to the racks after the GF win, who knows. But remember that slump about Round 22 onwards where he wanted absolutely nothing to do with the ball? I'd say there is more to it than just this. You don't let a bloke go because he's racked a few on mad Monday. That gets swept under the rug and he gets a slap on the wrist. It's his 2nd offence hence the automatic 12 weeks so they have had to come out. But even so the 4 week Thai holiday and Bob's your uncle. Someone else has done something stupid in the lead up to Christmas break and all is forgotten.

Apparently the Sharks had requested an extension to respond to the positive test which expired C.O.B today and it was Barba who requested the release from his NRL contract.
